University Update

Dear Students,

It is the end of finals week and I am sure that most, if not all of you, are breathing a little easier and ready for a well-deserved Spring Break. Before you begin your vacation, I want to bring you up to speed on an issue that will likely impact Cal Poly Pomona during the first few weeks of Spring Quarter.

You may be aware that The California State University system has been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract with the faculty. By the time you return to school, a strike situation may exist at Cal Poly Pomona and at other CSU campuses. While there may be some disruptions on campus, please remember that the entire university is committed to ensuring that your academic program will not be negatively impacted. We will be open for instruction and services as usual.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN TO THE YOU?
During the first week of classes, there should be no impact. The Cal Poly Pomona CFA Chapter has notified the faculty that there would be no job action during the first week of the quarter. After that, things may change on short notice. Faculty from Cal Poly Pomona, as well as neighboring campuses, may picket at university entrances and in public areas like the University Quad, University Park and the CLA building.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?
If you arrive to class and it appears that the professor is absent, assume that the class session is cancelled for the day. You should attend all other classes that day and the next. If you wish to add a course that is already full, you should appear at the next class meeting and discuss this with the instructor. For all other important business, please seek assistance at the department office.

KEEPING INFORMED
The university is developing a special Web site that will provide the most current available information. That link will be e-mailed to all students once the site is online. Please make sure you check the site frequently.

Thank you in advance for your patience. I hope that each of you enjoy your time off. See you on March 26.
