Learn about these opportunities and more in this edition of Poly @lumni. UPCOMING EVENTS Grad and Professional School Day Oct. 4 - Need information about grad schools? More than 90 different quality graduate and professional programs will be available during the information fair in the University Quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event is open to the public. Alumni Association Golf Tournament Oct. 5 - Spend a Friday morning playing golf at Coyote Hills in Fullerton AND raise money for scholarships. All proceeds will go toward the Alumni Scholars program. Read more... Matt's Run Oct. 6 - Matt's Run returns to Cal Poly Pomona. More than 500 people are expected to participate in this 5K community event that supports the Matthew Myers Memorial Scholarship Fund. Read more... New Leadership Workshop for Women Oct. 12 - The College of the Extended University is offering a new, one-day leadership workshop for women. Participants will learn how to think strategically, build and develop a high-performance team, manage a technical organization and much more. The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona's Center for Training, Technology & Incubation. Fall 2007 Career Day Oct. 18 - More than 200 companies will be in the University Quad from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring resumes and dress to impress. State-Approved Notary Training Oct. 18 - The College of the Extended University is offering a one-day seminar for individuals interested in becoming a notary. The state-approved class will be held Oct. 18 at the Bronco Student Center. Additional classes will be held Nov. 15 and Dec. 20. Whether you are new to the profession or a seasoned notary, this class provides the practical training you need to sail through the National Notary Exam and our program guarantees you'll pass! Annual Wellness & CyberSecurity Fair Oct. 25 - How big is YOUR footprint? How does our environment impact our health? Learn answers to these questions and more at the Annual Wellness & CyberSecurity Fair, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center, Ursa Major & Ursa Minor suites. Exhibitors from both on and off campus will be on hand to provide tips and information, free assessments and samples of health-enhancing products. Elixir Piano Trio Oct. 25 - Lucy Nargizyan, pianist; Samvel Chilingarian, violinist; and Garik Terzian, cellist - are known for their unique and exciting interpretations and passionate performances. The Los Angeles-based ensemble has performed nationally and internationally, dazzled audiences with their amazing energy and sensitivity. Their repertory includes works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Arensky, Glinka, Prokofiev, Khachaturian, Chebotarian, Abrahamian, Hovhannessian, Harutunian, Babadjanian and Piazzolla. ![]() | Student and Alumni Spotlight Dr. Una Morris '70, Zoology Diagnostic radiologist. Olympic athlete. Entrepreneur. Motivational speaker. Each of these titles represents a rare accomplishment on its own. To have them all describe the same person is even more phenomenal. And yet, that's exactly the case with Dr. Una Morris, who has repeatedly overcome the odds to achieve extraordinary success. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Morris lost her mother to illness when she was 10. At 17, she moved to California to finish high school and pursue a career in science. Read more... ![]() | News Fall Conference Addresses Five Major University Initiatives More than 1,500 people gathered Sept. 17, for the 35th annual Fall Convocation, the symbolic start to the new academic year. Formula Race Team Among the Best in Italian Competition Cal Poly Pomona's formula racing team earned a highly-respectable, fifth-place finish at the Society of Automotive Engineers formula competition in Italy.
