![]() | A Message to all Cal Poly Pomona Students: September 21 and the 2006-07 academic year are nearly here. For our commuter students, the first few days of parking and getting to classes on time can be quite challenging. In an effort to make this time a little less hectic, I wanted to share with you some important information. The new university parking structure, which began construction in early 2005, is nearing completion. We are currently anticipating that it will be open to the university community this November. The $37.6 million project will add 2,378 parking spaces and a new Police and Parking Services building. During the first two weeks of Fall Quarter, you should anticipate heavy demand for on-campus parking and possible delays on campus roadways due to traffic congestion. To prepare for this, Parking and Transportation Services wishes to provide you with the following tips: • During the first two weeks of school, if you arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, you are strongly recommended to arrive on campus a minimum of 45 minutes before your scheduled class or meeting. This will allow you time to find a parking space and, if necessary, take a campus shuttle to your destination. Delays are expected to be minimal after 3:00 and on Fridays. • To minimize your time finding a parking space, head immediately to one of the peripheral lots on campus (lots B, E, and K). Bronco Express, the campus shuttle system, runs every 10-15 minutes from these locations. The Bronco Express route can be found at http://www.csupomona.edu/map/campus/broncoexpress.pdf • If you are interested in one of the best parking spaces on campus, please consider taking advantage of the Student Rideshare Program. If you arrive at the Parking Information Booth with two or more students in your car, you will be given a pass to park in the closest parking spaces available. Students can contact the Rideshare Office at (909) 869-3233 for program information or to help find a rideshare partner. • Save Time! Conduct campus business before school starts. If you have business to conduct on campus in preparation for Fall Quarter, please come to campus before school starts. Parking permits will not be required until the start of school and you can get convenient parking almost anywhere. Most offices are open Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. The Bronco Bookstore is open extended hours before school opens. Their complete hours of operation can be found at: http://www.bookstore.csupom ona.edu/ OVERFLOW PARKING LOTS In anticipation of the increased demand for parking, two temporary overflow lots are available that can accommodate an additional 1,100 vehicles. The overflow lots are located on Kellogg Drive, near the American Red Cross (Building 218). These lots will only be opened when all on-campus parking has been utilized. An additional Bronco Express shuttle will transport students to the campus from these lots. Remember – give yourself enough time to get to campus and your class. Should you have any questions, please contact Parking and Transportation Services at 909-869-3061. See you on Sept. 21! Doug Freer Vice President for Student Affairs Cal Poly Pomona |
