Email Box Migration to Exchange - University News

Beginning on Tuesday, September 5, 2006, users of the Intranet mail system will be moved to the new Exchange mail application. This is one of the final steps in moving students, faculty and staff from the aging Intranet email, a project that has been in progress for several months.

As each user is moved, they will receive a final email in their current Intranet mail box. The message states that this is the last new email they will receive in their Intranet mail box. Mail already read, along with new emails, will be delivered to the user's email box on Exchange from then on.

The following information will be contained in the email message. Users may access new mail in Exchange either by using Outlook Web Access (OWA) at http://exchange.csupomona.e du or through other mail clients. If users access Intranet email through such clients as Outlook, Entourage, Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook Express, Macintosh Mail or Pine, these client configurations will need to be updated to point to the new mail server location. Users who forward their mail to an off-campus account (as many students do) are not affected by this change and will need to take no action unless they wish to switch to using the new mail system by using the clients like those noted above or OWA.

Directions for updating mail clients are at http://www.csupomona.edu/~ehelp/email/exchange.html . If users need help, they may contact the Help Desk at 909.869.6776 during normal business hours.

I&IT has beta tested this process with scores of users, who have reported that the Exchange server provides much faster email deliveries, quicker mail reception and a more modern interface.

The shift is expected to take several weeks to complete for all Intranet mail users.
