A Cal Poly student gave birth to a baby girl in the third-floor bathroom of Fremont Hall Sunday afternoon. University Police officers were the first of any medical aid to respond, since 911 calls from campus usually get dispatched to UPD, police chief Bill Watton said.

"When the officers arrived, the baby was already delivered and was wrapped in a towel. The mother was sitting holding the baby and waiting for assistance," he said.

Other students were in the bathroom with the woman when police arrived around 4:30 p.m. The mother's name has not been released by police or the university, and she has not been confirmed as living in the residence halls.
