![]() | Auto Burglary Alert IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO THE CAMPUS COMMUNITY The University Police Department is looking for possible victims of auto burglaries after arresting two men who are suspected of stealing catalytic converters from cars on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Cars with missing catalytic converters may have loud exhaust sounds and possibly emit smoke from underneath the car. At about 1:34 p.m., University Police received a call from a concerned student who reported a possible auto burglary in progress and described a black Cadillac Escalade. Shortly afterward, Officer Ken Kerkhof pulled over a vehicle of the same description in parking lot C. Inside the car, officers found five catalytic converters, possibly from Honda cars. Catalytic converters are an important part of a car's emissions control system. They are valued by thieves because of platinum used inside the converter. University police arrested two men. Both were booked into Pomona jail on suspicion of receiving stolen property, tampering with automobiles and possession of burglary tools. Possible victims of catalytic converter theft are urged to call University Police immediately at (909) 869-3070. I hope anyone who attempts to vandalize other people's property and in this case student's automobile will be caught and charged a hefty fine. |
