![]() | Roades Ph.D., L. (PSY 201) Professor: Laurie A. Roades, Ph.D. Required Text: Psychology Applied to Modern Life: Adjustment in the 21st Century (7th Edition) Monday & Wednesday - 2p.m. to 3:50p.m. I recommend taking Dr. Roades class for PSY 201. The class is a general class with over 100 students in class. Although the classroom is huge, there is not a problem hearing her voice is clear and audible across the room. There is a 3 minute break after one hour of lecture because it is a two-hour afternoon class. Dr. Roades makes the class enjoyable by having quick activities that relates to current chapter we are studying in. Last year, I took PSY 201 online course (WebCT) and I dropped out after a week or so. Take Dr. Roades class rather than the online course because you go through more of a "hands-on" type of lecture with great examples of psychological concepts. Dr. Roades recommend and welcome each student to visit her during her office hour to talk about how the student is doing at class and if we would like to receive guidance to study harder and what not. Dr. Roades also is a master program instructor in the afternoon. Overall, expect to get alot from this course and a great learning experience. SYLLABUS Course Description Exploration and application of basic psychological principles in understanding self, relationships with others, and interactions with social groups. Stages of psychological development and personality. Psychological approaches to interpersonal relations. Effective and ineffective living. Course Goals The primary goals of this course are twofold. First, this course will introduce you to psychology as a field and teach you basic terms and concepts important to understanding human behaviour. Second, this course should help you think about ways to apply this new knowledge to your own life and to the world in which we live. Course Objectives and Outcomes When you have completed this course, you should be able to do the following:
There will be several In-Class activities that worth 5 or 10 points each. No make-up exams for any given circumstances. However, you can miss one grade and take the final exam to count as your third exam.
