Which Major: ECE vs CS

Hi. I'm currently a ECE major at CPP. I'll be starting my second year and after getting a lot of my GE's out of the way Im finally gonna start on my core classes. I was comparing the ECE and the CS required classes and to me the CS classes sounded much more interesting. I remember choosing ECE because I thought it held more of a future. I am very interested in computers and love both the hardware and software aspects. Am I in the right major? or should I think about switching? Can someone please explain the differences and what possible futures each holds.

Hi gobritgo and welcome to the Cal Poly forum.
Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is a department under the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CS) is under the Computer Science Department.

In my opinion, computer science may hold more into the future. And Electrical Engineering may hold more or more sought out by the companies compared to Electrical and Computer Engineering.

You may want to take one of each core class to get a better idea and feel to the major. Talk to the department advisors along with the peers in class, preferably in the upper level (junior or senior).

Others could argue otherwise. It is best to find out yourself by taking a core class from each major if time and money permits of course.
And its best to find out and think it through in your early stage of college rather than latter stage. Though nothing wrong with coming back to college to further and expand your career. Good luck.
