I think I'm just too wimpy. I could never get the hang of slapping the ball with my bare hands. I was always hurting myself. My skin would usually turn red, and once I even busted a blood vessel in my thumb. There was an icky grey puffy spot and it HURT. I do all right in soccer, basketball, softball, and even flag football, but me and volleyball just don't get along.

A little off subject here but do you really need an instructor? I bet the instructor gives everybody balls and goes sit in the john until class is over. Come on now. Maybe if you guys were in elmementary but why force a college student to take a PE class. MHO.

I hate volleyball too. I like using a smaller softer ball because the real ones just hurt too much. I'm afraid that I will break my fragile bones hitting the ball the wrong way. But I do have a mighty powerful serve. I am right there with you Zoe. I used to love soccer, softball, I also enjoy running. However, I haven't gotten much exercise since I left high school. I cannot find the motivation.

It's rather sad. I used to be a pretty good athlete, but I can never find time to get out there and move around. Hell, I used to run on the cross country team in high school and now I just get winded walking up three flights of stairs to get to my classes after walking from parking F.

My name is Postergirl7. I am 23 years old and I move like an old woman. At least I still have the body of a 23 year old. Thank God for good metabolism.

I feel really guilty though. Here I am in my twenties, the time of life that I should be in peak physical condition and I can't run around with a soccer ball for like 10 minutes without getting tired. Does anyone else feel my pain?

You really don't want osteoporosis at a young age.

And P.E. is not required by most majors (thank goodness). Students usually take a kinesiology class to meet the full time requirement, to fill up a gap, or to boost up the GPA.

Yeah! Why can't volleyball be played with a Nerf ball? .....and yet I won't hesitate to bump a soccer ball with my head, heehee. My skull is definitely much sturdier than my hand bones. A moment of remiscence... there was one game where someone kicked the ball really high and right in my direction. I hit the ball squarely with my head and it flew back to the other side of the field, however I think it was the only time I ever saw stars for a few seconds. I was both elated and disoriented at the same time.

Yes, where did our free time go? I've thought about gym membership, but then I would think, realistically, what are the chances I'll actually go? Motivation can be an elusive thing. It helps if you have someone to go with who is more motivated than you. But no, my sweetheart is LESS motivated than me so it doesn't work. So instead I try to find little ways to exercise here and there. At my last job I would take the stairs all the time instead of the elevator. At my current job the stairs will trigger an alarm, so I walk around the block during my lunch break. It's kind of pitiful, but I'm a firm believer that every little bit helps.

I can see how a class, such as volleyball, would help folks get some exercise where they might otherwise have none. You might also make some friends. Although if you suck like I do they may not want you on their team.

I thought the volleyball class was fun. The teacher takes roll, student stretch, form a team and play matches. There is an advanced volleyball class for the non-beginners.

Hey now, don't go lumping Postergirl and me into "all you girls". There are plenty of female hardcore volleyballers who could kick sand into the faces of the majority of the world's population. As I recall, throughout my young schooling career when P.E. was still required, most of the girls found volleyball to be their favorite sport. I was actually in the minority.
