Tournament news in today's newspapers

three of our suburban newspapers are running a story today about how mad coach k. and coach oliver are about the conference tournament.

coach k. is ticked off, rightfully so, because nobody bothered to contact the team that they were playing the jacks in the first round. they had understood they were playing the coyotes and were planning to return home. imagine packing your bags, heading to the airport, and then......oops, we forgot to tell you to stay in arcata for five more days?

it also says that if the broncos were to win out the team would miss almost THIRTY per cent of the quarter since the regionals likely will be in anchorage this year. not exactly in the spirit of the NCAA, folks.

coach o. has an even bigger gripe. if you can believe it, the league is NOT recognizing the yotes as co-champions of the league! the reason is because of the complicated tiebreaker system, in this case that had to take into account the records of all FIVE third place teams, such that the jacks won on fifth generation data. that means they automatically qualify for the dance while the yotes must win their way in.

of course the yotes (23-7 and fifth in national computer rankings) are ranked higher in the national polls, the regional polls, has a better overall record, a better strength of schedule (including at UCLA), and better team stats. but still not good enough per the CCAA.

so coach o. says he will personally buy the league title banner anyway and fly it. will be commissioner order it down?

who's on the side of our rivals, the yotes?
