Question Do you have time to work?

I am planning on going to one of the cal poly shcools to major in architecture.
I was wondering if i would have enough time to work (as in a job that pays) so i can afford my car and stuff...do you have time to work while u are attending cal poly?

I'm not an architect. But I know a friend who is. From what it seems, it's unlikely you will be able to do it a job and architect well together.

From what I gather, the 80-90 or so architects at our school are on a 5 year program that is rather linear, and leaves very little time up to do other things. My friend is jobless and is constantly complaining about the lack of time, and the great amount of projects due; and the cost of projects is big she said! If you were in a bigger major you could go at your own pace and buy a car; but because you're pretty much forced into the 5 year setup your choices are limited.

I hope you get a first hand source, but long story short; don't plan on it.

But JPWRana, what are you majoring in? Some majors are just way more time-intensive than others.
