| GCP.com Admin | Well... choosing majors are really hard actually! I've chosen plenty of them because I rarely enjoy one thing for long... I am deeply into airplanes, so aerospace eng. was one of my passions, also can program so computer science, or computer eng. too. I'd say the biggest determining factors are: your math skills. (Which... is hard to tell until you've gotten through calculus.) What you see yourself doing the rest of your life. Also... job outlook is important. I personally chose Mechanical Eng. as my major because it covered so much. Eng.'s for the most part can make almost anything, although they specialize in things. Mech Eng. majors can do cars... boats... airplanes... toys... satellites, a ton of stuff! I'd say they are one of most broad engineers, that's why i chose it. Changing majors ain't too hard, so just sign up for one that's not impacted too hard and you should get in! They're all similiar at the base in GEs, and support courses... for the most part. Architecture is pretty cool if you're not a math nut, last i heard they didn't take calculus? heh... I don't know about materials engineer but it sounds like they make advanced materials.... which is very important! But rather a narrow field Hope I helped. |

| Active Member | hehe thanks! that helps me a lot . i'm taking calculus AB right now...i think i'm only OKAY with math...most math problems (unless they're like super easy) take me a long time to do it, i'll eventually figure out..but anyways, math and science are way better than english and history to me, at least. i thought of other majors too like mechanical engineering, but it works with like large machines and stuff (i might be interested in mechatronic, but i don't think it's broad..). electrical...i like electronics stuff, but i tried to look for more info on the EE page..they don't give me much info. i guess i wanna find a major that i like/okay with it and not too narrow so i can find a job lol i still have 2 months to decide...but still...don't wanna make the "wrong" choice.. hehe |

| GCP.com Admin | Calc AB? Excellent. I did that route, I think they like that. It seems a lot of the hold ups in school are caused by math lackies... so good math will give you time to decide what you truly want to do. Just pick an engineering major, after two quarters you'll be able to change your major with one simple piece of paper. Most early quarters are all general eds too so this approach won't slow you from graduating too much. Good luck! |

wish our campus were closer to u...my family in china but aunties and stuff is here. btw do u have any chance to get admitted to ucb? they would be your first choice if u can get in...if not, then our school is a nice compromise. i was 46 in a hs class of almost 600 with lots of AP classes and think pomona is the best mix of academics, student life, and tolerance to all peoples. i passed on admits into the uc system...was not admitted to ucb, tho. ![]()

1) i'm not smart enough to get accepted 2)even if i get accepted (which would be like 0.00000000000001 chance) i'd get killed by all the pressure and stuff at ucb, because there are just too many smart people..lol 3)TOO close to home and i don't think i like that city.. 4) not much diversity, i guess i'd want at least 50/50. 5) too competitive 6) everyone thinks ucb is the best...which i think NOT even though i know it's a good school... 7) i wanna go to other places other than the bay area to experience...like not too far and not too close (davis would be the best choice, but now i heard of cal poly and it's less expensive and it's practical rather than theoretical, it should be good too) 8)umm...i can't think of anything else...lol but yea, i think that's enough for my reason not apply to ucb...lol

![]() |
ohh yea, i'm not gonna apply to ucb whatsoever...i have several reasons for that... u sound smart to me, alice. i coulda gone to ucla but like poly better. if u are pretty smart u will do well. ego was hurt for not getting admit to ucb but am told they expect chinese students to be almost perfect b/cuz so many of us apply there that they say they have too many. we have almost 6,000 chinese students at poly pomona and that's really nice, lots of friends and cultural stuff, dragon boats, moon festivals, new years fun etc...u would really fit in nicely here...and lots of nice cantonese guys, too to sho u around...hey, is concord where there is some navy base or something? i remember that town...if you have a hs 4.0 u should be okay at either poly school...just remember your "place" at slo, okay??? ![]() |

| Active Member | lol okay pomona sounds fun hehe...i don't think concord has a navy base or anything...i heard of a navy base somewhere around bay area...but don't remember where...lol umm let's see..martinez, walnut creek, pleasant hill, pittsburg, antioch, clayton...ever heard of those cities? concord is around those places...hehe, actually this is easier: concord is 30 miles east of san francisco...lol yea, that's it. ![]() |

![]() | I'd say it's the prettiest campus I visited and the nicest people. The only campus even close up north is UOP in Stockton, also very pretty. But CPP a far better school academically, particularly in science and engr stuff.
yah, i kno lots and lots of ppl here at cpp who passed on uc admit ltrs...and kno lots of homees who are over there (UC) totally stressed out. we have enuf smart kids here to keep a competitive edge but not so freaky that EVERYBODY on campus is a hs valedictorian shooting for a 4.0. it's a good balance (high quality/great teachers without extra stress) and agree that campus is so scenic you never would think you are within a half hour of LA. that kellogg dude did it right, and now it's our ranch...hahaha... ![]() |

![]() | If you do get accepted to Berkeley, would you give it a second thought? Why not just apply just for the heck (bragging right) of it and find out whether you qualify or not.

![]() | just wanted to say that Pomona isn't all that far from the Bay Area once you get used to the drive. i'm from Fairfield (if you're from Concord, you should know where that is) and i go home every other week or so, or sometimes when i'm just bored on a weekend. My younger sister just graduated from UCB last year (she beat me!!! ) so i used to go to UCB a lot to visit her, pick her up, etc. before i transferred down here. i think that CPP has a much better campus, but that's just my opinion because i prefer smaller schools.BTW, there is a Navy base in Concord but it's a really, really small weapons station. all the big bases in the Bay Area closed.
