What are some of the reasons you would get a minor degree?

What are some of the reasons you would get a minor degree?
Top of my head:
  • You have an interest in the extent and lesser in seriousness and want to learn more about the subject
  • Looks good on your resume?
I can't really think of anymore. Help?

Edit it up so people know what you're talking about because extent or lesser is damn confusing!

The reason i'd get a M I N O R is:

I like the subject, and want to use it in the future.

For instance, I want to make stuff! Almost anything and everything! Cars/boats/cars/airplanes/space stuff and the like.... so i would get a M I N O R so when i get into industry and make stuff I can do a lot more.

I am a mechanical Eng. MAJOR and may double major in Electrical Eng. or at least minor in it. I also am a skip and a jump from a computer science major, which i might get because everything in our lives gets programmed.

I care more about actual use, so I'm not going to major into something just because it looks good... I hear a lot of employeers know minors are easy to get and really don't care for them. <shrug>

When you get a minor degree and complete both minor and bachelors, do you get two certificates in your graduation or one certificate with both your major and minor listed on the cert?

You get one certificate only. Minor is listed on your transcript, but not diploma.

Well, if you get a minor in something means you know a quite a bit about the subject since you've completed the courses. This widens the scope of job opportunities because you could get in to an industry with the minor... and eventually get your dream job based on your major when there's a vacancy as minors are closely related to the major.

Besides, its more like killing two birds with one stone because many minors only require a couple of extra classes if you choose your electives carefully that are required for the minor. Oops, that wasn't even the question
