![]() | What's so good about Pomona anyways? so ill be attending pomona(maybe?) this fall as a landscape architect. i've been debating alot whether i should go or not. some people said it was bad and some people said it was good. i need some convincing: here are some questions that i would like to ask and get some inputs 1. any regrets? do you prefer a university instead? 2. how is the campus life like?(probably the most important one. is it comparable to a UC campus life?) 3. what are the best(clean, somehwat quiet but fun) dorm? how do they dorms compare with UCS 4. what do you like and dislike about it? 5. how are the women? are UC women better or pomona? ![]() ALSO: is pomona any good at architect? by any chance, can i transfer to a UC from cal poly? | Guru | i'd say pomona women better cuz u have ur pick: latin, white, or asian. Pomona is ghetto, and has nice areas, so u can have ur ghetto booty, or u can have ur snooby white girl. There are LOTS of girls here... whether in calpoly or not. I dislike the huge prices bout calpoly, but i'm done this quarter, so i cant complain anymore. |

![]() | huh? you make it sound like there is one campus called UC. the truth is that UCs are as different as CSUs. we are WAAAY better than UC schools like riverside and much nicer campus too with hotter chicks. and arch is one of the top ten programs in the country. ghetto? we are on the border of diamond bar and walnut, and both of these are upper middle class snobby suburbs. the ghetto is miles away. | Fire-breather | Like they said, different UC and CSU campuses are all different. You'd get different responses just comparing two UC schools or two CSU schools... even just comparing the two Cal Poly campuses would yield different results. But anyway, I lived in a dorm for 2 years at UC Santa Cruz. Absolutely loved it! It was one of the newer dorms so the facilities were nice and new. While there I visited some friends in the older dorms, the floors were creaky and I didn't like it as much. Same thing at CPP. So if you have a choice, see if you can get into a newer building. The city of Pomona itself has a bad rep, but the campus is on the outskirts of town, bordering some very nice towns. You have to go out of your way off campus to find some bad elements of the inner city. Campus life at CPP is less party-oriented than other campuses. There is a large commuter population and the students in general are more focused on their studies than some of the other campuses. I liked it because it meant relative quiet most of the time. If you're a party animal and seeking the stereotyped collegiate life, then this campus may not be for you. Considering how much of an investment college is in your life, I suggest that the most important thing is how good the school is in your area of study. If a school is well known for their L.A. program over all other campuses, you'll want to weigh that more heavily than the other factors. And if it's asian girls you like, there are plenty of them, especially in the Hotel & Restaurant Management major.

But i guess come to think of it, u do have some truth in what u say. san dimas, walnut, phillips ranch (community of pomona), and diamond bar are NICE PLACES to live in, so ur right. I take my comment back. | |

![]() | not to mention... the acceptance rate for arch is only 8 per cent! that means that for every 25 apps only TWO get accepted! Quote:

![]() | [quote=vyan] im going in as landscape architect and switch majors to architect after the first year. QUOTE] Um, good luck with that switching plan. Chances are VERY slim for a student to change their major to Arch. Trust me, I had that same plan as a youngster. You have a better chance of getting into arch if you go to a community college first, then transfer to CPP. The entire college of Environmental Design is outstanding. I came from the URP and Landscape Arch programs, and wow, they worked us. But when we graduate, most of the people in those fields are from CPP. SUre there are some great UC;s out there, but none of them will prepare you as well for an environmental design career. I ask that you seriously think about why you are going to college, and why you picked arch. I found that arch is NOT what I wanted to do. All they focus on are structures. Landscape and Planning both do design as well, but focus more on a community design, and not jsut that one building. If you really want to go to a UC (not sure why, they are more expensive, and you will probably NEVER meet your actual professor) then think about studying something other than Arch. Take a campus tour, and meet with the arch dept. That would help you a lot. http://www.csupomona.edu/visitor |

![]() | im going to CPP because i want to be an architect. i had intentions of becomming an architect because im taking a arch. class in hs which i find it intriquing and would like to continue it. what are you doing now? chances are slim? how's that possible? what's URP? are you telling me to stay in as a landscape architect? so what's teh difference between arch. and landscape arch? is it worth going for as a landscape arch? |

| Newcomer | I don't know if arch is anything like it is at my current school (UF), but its really hard here. Lots and lots of hours outside of class spent making things out of balsa wood, museum board, and wood. Lots = 60 hours/week minimum. I'm in engieering and their the only people I actually think have as much work as us. But..if it's what you want to do, that's great!! Work you ass off from day one until you graduate and you'll be good. ![]() Sorry..SOMEONE had to be positive |

![]() | dorm life we have almost 4,000 students who live on campus. the oldest dorms, about seven or eight of them, are located across the street from the engineering bldgs. they are really old, maybe back to the 1950s and 1960s. on the other side of campus are the suites. they are new and nice. but long waiting lists. great becuz they are right next to the gym, pool, handball courts, etc., so sweet if you like to work out. then there is the village. these are on campus apts, about 30 or so multistory bldgs. they have a pool and a rec ctr and some activities over there. we have a good bus circuit that takes you around becuz it's a big campus. on the major thing good luck. you already know how hard it is to get in. you just can't switch anyold time into impacted majors.
