![]() | SLO Ranked 3rd Best Place to Live in the US I found a list on MSN.com (also published through Forbes I believe, both attributing the list to Sperling’s) that ranks the top places to live in the United States. The ranking is a follows: 1. Charlottesville, VA; 2. Santa Fe, NM; 3. San Luis Obispo, CA; 4. Santa Barbara, CA; 5. Honolulu, HI; 6. Ann Arbor, MI; 7. Atlanta, GA; 8. Asheville, NC; 9. Reno, NV; and 10. Corvallis, OR. About #3 San Luis Obispo the article claims, “This quiet group of towns on the central California coast could easily qualify as paradise. The climate is among the country's most pleasant, with 285 mostly sunny days per year and temperatures rarely above 90 degrees or below freezing. The presence of academic heavyweight Cal Poly helps anchor the local economy—the unemployment rate is well below the national average.” I thought some of you might be interested to know... |

![]() | Problem is, it comes at a huge price. I can easily name SLO county as one of the most expensive (if not the most) in the state. That and the housing situation up there is quite grim, which adds to the tremendous costs. Limited housing + small "resort town" = $$$$$$$$$$ |

![]() | Polarman- First, I LOVE the avatar. Second, there are some deals to be had in SLO if you look for them. I have a 2-bedroom apartment for $1050 right now. Not too bad. One of my friends lives in a really nice house while paying $500/month for her own room. Certainly the Bay Area and San Diego have more expensive housing than SLO. |

Speaking of real estate, I never knew "Cal Poly owns more land than any other California university, with the exception of UC Berkeley. There are 9,678 acres (39 km˛) in total. The lands are used for student education, mainly agriculture. The lands include the main campus, two nearby agricultural lands and two properties in Santa Cruz county." <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_Poly_San_Luis_Ob ispo> | |
