Shuttle Driver Injured

On Monday, at about 9:30AM, I heard the Cal Poly Pomona Police dispatcher put out a call that a shuttle driver slipped on the stairs of his/her bus and couldn't get up. The dispatcher called for paramedics, who came on campus to treat the driver.

I wasn't on campus; I was listening to the police with my scanner.

Anyone know which driver it was that was injured?

I was waiting for the shuttle when it happened. It was Jerry, and he slipped down the hill behind the MASA house/Stables. He was on his way down to see the Rose Float on display. Don the other driver said he needed knee surgery right away. Poor guy, he is nice. I think he will be back in like a month.

He fell down the stairs and rolled down the hill? Dude, that is not a great experience. Where did you get a police scanner from?

What an idiot... he needed knee surgery from falling down?!?!?! Dude!!! all that driving is making you unhealthy!!! I suggest he transfer to a more ACTIVE job so that he doesn't "SHATTER HIS ARM" next time he accidentally taps in on a door.

He was nowhere near a shuttle when this happened. There weren't any stairs!

Hey, I'm just repeating what I heard the dispatcher say.

I thought the only work-related injury Jerry would receive would be a heart attack from trying to enforce his stupid rules on "his" bus.

Still, it's unfortunate he fell.

What rules did he have?

Is Jerry the African American driver with combat boots? I think his rule is absolutely no drinks or food to be brought onto the bus, even if you are not eating / drinking them. If you want to bring food or drinks onto the bus, you have to conceal them.

Each bus driver has some interesting radio choices. The mustached driver likes to listen to the NPR. The African American lady likes to tune in to a church chorus music channel. If Jerry is the bus driver I think he is, his choice of radio is Kost103.

No, Jerry is white and kind of heavyset. He only drives the A bus in the morning/afternoon.

He's a lot more lenient now with rules, but back in the fall and winter quarter last year, he had all sorts of crazy rules.

No eating/drinking on the bus
No skateboards/scooters/rollerblades
No standing near the doors (front or back)
ONLY get off the bus through the back doors. Even if you were seated up front he would make you get off through the back doors!
NEVER get on through the back doors. He claimed he couldn't see you get on (aren't that what mirrors are for? I looked myself and could CLEARLY see the sidewalk and back doors!)
Sometimes if you were late and ran after the bus, he wouldn't stop for you.

BTW, he usually listens to 94.7 The Wave

Whatever happened to the "Soul Bus" driver last year? That guy was cool! He was an old black guy who drove in the evenings. He would play old skool funk, and would always snap his fingers or drum the steering wheel to the beats.

Pardon me while I bust out with an old-fogey voice...

Busses, trollies..... in my day we didn't have none of that! We had to walk up those hills on foot, and we liked it!
