The only college station I was aware of in that area was KSPC 88.7. It's stationed in Claremont, but I'm not sure what college it's affiliated with, if any.

back in the days of yore this campus had a radio station. i think it was in the old dorms. but then we also had a football team and all kinds of other great stuff that made campus life more fun. now we get a parking garage instead.

It's still music, but not the mainstream stuff. It's a good outlet for college bands and lesser-known music to reach an audience. Most of them have certain type of music at a certain time period. For example 3 hours of electronica in the evening, followed by a different show for the late night. Some stations may have some NPR news thrown in the mix. I forget what NPR stands for, Non Profit Radio? National Public Radio?

It's the radio station of the Claremont Colleges, but it's specifically associated with Pomona College.

Our radio station was KCPK and lasted from 1962 to 1982 it was plagued with general mismanagement, inconstancy programming, and lack of any real department really taking any responsibility for it. It finally died because ASI stopped funding it.

you are a fountain of knowledge...i hear all kinds of talk about a football team coming back to school and there was even an article about that in the paper. but a radio station would be better. it could give students another outlet for information, local music as you say, and a place for us to work if we have interest in this field. man, this campus must be way bigger than it was in the sixties and seventies...can we pressure asi to get a station back even if low power?

well if we wanted to start one up we'd have to do something like start a club to show we have interest in it. Hey I'd be down starting up a radio station.

I'd be willing to post links to any internet radio station that caters to Cal Poly, on gradecalpoly.com. Sounds like a good idea! I say start with an internet radio station and hopefully in a couple of months ASI will fund it and turn it live radio?

NPR radio does stand for National Public Radio... I listen to that 80% of the time I'm in a car, it's a very good source of news.

i agree with all of you...let's get a campus radio station again. do we have anybody reading these posts who is in asi like a senator or anything? this would help unite the student body and the campus...and let's bring it up with pizza and the prez.

I could probably figure out how to setup an internet radio station easily... and a real station too, but I am from an apartment so I can't mount no radio antenna from here.

I'd host the thing but I got enough vegetables on my plate to eat it all. RA-D-O! RA-D-O!

I think we probably should start out with an Internet radio show, and try to see if enough people are willing to listen to that for a while to validate a full-blown FM broadcast. Does anyone have some suggestions for a domain name if we were to carry this out right now (e.g. calpolyradio.com)?

I wonder if our college is in a bad location for radio reception though, as I seem to always loose some or all reception passing by Cal Poly.

we need one of our computer or engr people to answer this one...i would think that it would have no effect for an internet station but would think we would need a tower for broadcasting. but then we could put it up on the hilltop where those silly looking purple letters sit.

Would the University have sold off the radio equipment from when they did have a radio station? Granted it would be ancient equipment, but if it was still functional...

You guys might not have to re-invent the entire wheel to set up a radio station. Who knows, maybe the old broadcast antenna is still standing somewhere. Just figure out what they did the last time they had CPP radio, and then find out what went wrong with it. Take the old "wheel" and put new rims and spinners on it!
