Thumbs up Raise Your Voice Campaign

Thank you Kevin Kwak for helping me log into Calpolyonline!

On behalf of the Center for Community Service-Learning, I wish to extend a special invitation to all students to participate in the very first annual Raise Your Voice Campaign. The Raise Your Voice Campaign is a national initiative of Campus Compact to increase student action for change. The vision of our Raise Your Voice Campaign for Cal Poly Pomona is “to inform citizens and raise issues in order to build long-standing bridges from our community to the world.” We hope to foster this vision through guest speakers discussing the importance of civic engagement, a Campus Café Night where students speak their minds on issues they are concerned about, an Exhibition of Expression where students utilize art to raise their voices and a film viewing to stir up discussion about world issues. The Raise Your Voice Campaign will take place from January to March 2005.

This event will outline the importance for students, faculty and staff members to be civically engaged in their communities and the communities surrounding Cal Poly Pomona.

Events have been scheduled and we have an amazing committee heading this special campaign. If you have any further questions or if you would like more information on this event, please feel free to e-mail Aileen Orlino at aorlino@csupomona.ed u or call x4269.

Let's not forget about the Livestrong Bracelets that are for Cancer Research. I'm amazed by how this fundraiser is a nationwide outreach. My sister went completely beserk over the idea of being able to wear this bracelet and got one at her school of biology (UCI). CPP has a Bio Cancer Society, and they will find some benefits in helping out. I am glad to be able to play a certain role for this committee.

BTW, Check out CSS.

A lot of people selling them online. Ebay perhaps, among others.

*EDIT: I want to retract this statement but not delete it. After my research I wouldn't trust getting an original from Ebay. Get it from the Lance Armstrong Foundation so you know where your money is actually going. http://www.laf.org/

Thumbs up

If buying Livestrong bracelets online, be sure they are not knock-offs. The ones that Raise Your Voice Campaign is selling are the real deal!

Congrats Aileen, on getting this posted

Very true! A nephew wanted one of those bracelets so we searched around online and were amazed at the varying prices. Lots of people trying to profit off a good cause, so beware and don't waste your money on fakes. Making knock-off clothes and purses I am fine with because I personally think brand names are stupid, but when you try to rip off a charity? That's beyond low.

I did some quick research. If you encounter blue, pink, red or any other color of LiveStrong bracelets they are fakes. The Lance Armstrong Foundation ONLY makes them in YELLOW. There are some charities that are following their lead and producing bracelets of their own, such as pink bracelets (that have a different printed message) to support breast cancer research. The safest way to go, if you want to support the cause, is to get it directly from the source: http://www.laf.org/

Let's make it happen

We definitely would love to have the Livestrong bracelets come to our campus as it WILL help raise money for cancer research. I have one at home, and I got mine at Ontario Mills' Nike store. Even though I don't shop for Nike, I feel that raising money for soley on cancer research and selling the livestrong bracelets are great incentives to getting (hopefully) quality researches.

If any of you know any other sources of funding to getting Livestrong on our campus, let me know. I'd love to hear more from everyone's interest on this matter.

Come out to our events too, you never know, we may have something special or unique that we may have to substitute if the livestrongs doesn't follow through.

This is a wonderful experience. At first, I felt that the name Raise Your Voice was a little overly sentimental but as time progressed, it made me think about how by my doing a little thing to help can cause a huge difference in people's attitude adjustments.

Despite our raw mistakes in the past, finding the true path in life is a lot closer than one can imagine. I came to realization of hope and renewed vitality in coming to grips with how the most painful death on the cross ever known to man could counter our hopeless causes, which are voids; by bringing an infinite value of saving souls from staying lost.
