question!

i'm planning on taking bio during the spring quarter but I can't fit bio lab into my schedule. Does it matter if I take bio lab during another quarter? Do I have to take both classes at the same time??

At SLO you do. I'm not sure about pomona, but i'm pretty sure its the same at every college.

You don't say which BIO course you're planning on taking. I took BIO 110 without taking the lab BIO 111L at Pomona. It was no problem. I heard you can take the lab separately but I don't know that for sure. You might want to check the catalog. It should tell you if you need to take classes concurrently.
