Prospective student here looking to decide

Hi folks, I am currently a high school student planning to apply to both CP SLO and CPP this fall, however, I am somewhat undecided on which I should go to, and with that I have a ton of questions

First off, which one is better for my major, and how is the selectivity of both schools (in terms of the specific major)? I have already decided on electrical engineering as my major, have a 3.82 GPA (10-11th grade, with the few extra points for honors/AP classes), 3.9 overall, ranked 44 out of my class of 597 (puts me within the top 10%), 1200 SAT (a bit on the low side, in my opinion), currently the VP of math club, and currently taking AP Calculus BC and AP Physics C as my main math/science courses (however, I didn't pass my AP Calc. AB test last year - was my first time taking an AP test though, but I am currently doing very well in BC and Physics C - 91% and 93% current scores, respectively).

Secondly, does either school even bother looking at SAT2 scores? I took those tests since I'm also applying to a couple lower-tier UCs as safeties.

Thirdly, I plan to retake the SAT in December. Although I've looked on SLO's site stating that "tests taken after November may not be guaranteed to be used on the record," I just wanted to make sure if this holds true for both CPs.

And finally, my parents are willing to pitch in and help, so cost is only a moderate problem at the most, but specifically for Cal Poly SLO, how many people actually get accepted for campus housing? (I live in SoCal, so the issue of housing can be a problem if I decide to go to SLO) - CPP isn't too much of a problem since it's only a 20 min. drive away, but not having a driver's license opens up the can of worms.

One side of me tells me to stay here and the other tells me to leave SoCal (since I've pretty much lived here all my life and I have a desire to get out), but I just want to see the pros and cons of both schools first.

I apologize if this is a bit too lengthy, heh heh, but thanks in advance for any helpful answers.

dang you smart, i'm hecka struggling in physics and calc right now...and i'm not even in those high level ones...hahhah...anyw ays, i think i can only answer one of your questions...they don't look at SAT 2 scores. well, at least you live 20 miles away from one of the cal poly's...i live way far from both schools...argg...i think i'd probably regret if i get accepted for early decision...(because of distance-wise)

Hopefully your parents are willing to pitch in on this. Most of my friends here plan on going to either UCR, UCI, UCLA, CPP or CSUF because of distance, but there's plenty willing to travel around.

As for SAT2 scores, I did some more reading and apparently it seems all CSU schools give semester credit for taking the test and meeting a certain score. I'm guessing they look at the full score report to see if the requirement has been fulfilled.

Don't worry too much about that, although the only cure I know if is taking in more time for studying, and lots of practice.

I struggled a lot in my honors physics class last year, but so did everyone else in the class - mainly because we had a very crappy teacher who sucked at explaining things (ended up with a B in the class both semesters, but it was mainly the labs and projects that saved my arse). This year, however, everything seems so much more clear to me and I actually understand the material very well.

Mine graduated from CSULB (I think). The concepts aren't that hard to grasp, but she made everything seem extremely confusing, especially for those who weren't concurrently enrolled in an advanced math class (precal and above).

Well, I finally submitted my apps to CPP and SLO today. Going to keep my fingers crossed till around March.

By the way, when are the SAT score reports due for both schools (I don't quite trust the info on the collegeboard site).

FlinxSL should append this to their statement-> "cal poly SLO is [the] #1 public school in the nation for EE" within it's category, which is "Universities who's highest degree is a master's". This is also only in terms of undergraduate study.

http://education.yahoo.com/college/e..._rank_eng.html

It is not a complete list, but I sure would like to see where CPP ranks on it.
That is for all engineering, not just EE. A long time ago, everything on the internet was free access, not you need to pay and register.

CPP ranks 14th this year (2005), however, it was at the #9 spot last year for engineering.

Haha, so yeah, anyone want to answer my question there?
I already confirmed CPP as Jan. 31st, not sure on when SLO wants them.

electrical engineering student??? Please do us all a favor, especially me, DON'T KILL YOURSELF!! I'm becoming very irritated with all these suicides on campus of people who just "can't take it anymore". It's stupid, it doesn't get you anything and a stupid major like engineering is not worth it. Remember, your future isn't worth your life.

Rest assured, I have never been anywhere near suicide in my life, either that can be a good or bad thing. When I got my first F back in middle school, I was at the very most angry, but I took it with a grain of salt. I highly value my life much more than my academic life, and shall never consider the coward's way out.

If I fail, that's my own problem. In the past I have always found sensible outlets by working harder.

Speaking of that, I'm afraid to even touch sharp metal objects (mainly because of the small cooking accidents I've had with them with the past).

Is there a similar list for other majors? For example, mathematics?
