Police Blotter (Poly Post)

Over the three years at Cal Poly Pomona, I have never seen one Poly Post issue where there was 0 thefts and 0 break-ins.

For the fall quarter, there has been 9 thefts and 30 break-ins.
I don't know what the tally is for other campuses but 9 thefts?
Is this because their vehicle was not secured enough or is this because the parking securities are not doing their job. Who know what the student is doing up in the parking skywatch.

Can't we just leave other people's property alone? There is nothing to envy or drool over a nice car. Maybe one quarter, there will be 0 thefts and 0 break-ins.

It is part of our daily activity. We can discuss how to prevent from future break-ins, where to park our cars, and what not.

I like to park my vehicle on the side curb on the street. Less thefts because a lot of cars and people pass by the curbs.

1) If you have a modified ride, try to park in more crowded areas. Most thiefs are after expensive aftermarket parts.

2) Drive a cheap or bone stock car to school

3) If you have a nice car (or think you do), try NOT parking in the same spot everyday. It makes it an EASY target. Change parking structures once a while...

I don't think the skywatch towers even have people at times.

Up to now, there has been 35 break-ins at Cal Poly Pomona's parking lot.

A CRS resident introduced a plan that might deter future break-ins on campus.. Having a computerized license plate database stored for the parking officers may know which vehicles have permit to park on campus.

The thing is, how exactly could the parking officer check each and every car whether the license plate number is stored on the database. And I'm sure Cal Poly students may break-in/damage other Cal Poly student's vehicle. Therefore, the system may not be effective.

1) Invest in a cheap car club for the steering wheel.
2) Take your stereo faceplate off.
3) Never leave personal goods where visible.

Less chance of future break-ins.

Well 35 break-ins out of 10,000 cars doesn't sound TOO bad to me. The police can't watch every spot of the parking lot...

I usually get to park my "bone-ass" corolla right in front of the CLA building (across the meters)...

I knew someone who had his car stolen in the apartment complex near Cal Poly Pomona (about 3 miles away).
Some kids attempted to steal this car's rims but wasn't successful. Some crazy student on Cal Poly.

I have one of those car clubs on my old Camry. Older cars are more easier to be stolen because of less security built in on the old cars.

You're right on that one. The 89-91 camry are among the MOST vulnerable ones out there...

Thieves are after the stock parts since they cost so much!

and the club sucks.

LOL cypress college is just in a crappy area in general and attracts some crappy people.

And the club does NOT work. A hack saw and a minute will get it off the steering wheel.

Alarms barely attract any attention, most of the time people just wish someone would turn it off, and most can be shut off after the car is broken into.

Best thing to keep some one from driving off with your ride is to wire in a kill switch for the fuel pump that is hidden. Also low jack works very well once you find your car is stolen. Few other tracking systems but they are not as widely integrated with the police.

I go to cypress college lol. It is a crapy college but the city is nice. Its average house is $425,000 is my guess. Theres homes from 300k to 5-600k so the city of Cypress isnt really crappy. As far as the club yes I know that they don't work. Alarms lol there a joke I don't look unless its mine. Tracking true lojack is with the police but theres others that work different. They will tell YOU from the internet where your car is at so you go online it says where its at you call the cops. Ya 911 my car is in Mexico in a chop shop can you go get it for me lol. Also kill switch alot of trucks have them but there in plain site.

I live less than 5min away from cypress college (I could go walk my dog and pass by it) and if you just go a few blocks one way, it gets crappy, and a few blocks the other way it becomes nice. I shouldnt have been so general about it.

I know about the internet tracking systems but there are a few problems, you need a cell phone signal for it to work. And the police are not always that eager to help you out right away.

If you call them and say you car is here they just go, OK sir we will look into it. ANd you will need to get into contact with the police that have jurisdiction in that area. You can call the local police but they will pass the info along to another department. And by the time they go the car may have already moved and you will have to start all over again. With lojack its a radio signal with and it sets off the unit in other police cars once they are in range.

Buena Park is right on the border with Cypress college thats why you say its crappy That is alot worse than Cypress in general. Also I don't get my car stolen often enough to know that cops wont go after that internet address lol.

Never said cypress is crappy, said the area that cypress college is in is crappy.

And I have never had to deal with my car being stolen yet, but I know enough cops and people that work with the police departments to know what goes on most of the time.

If you're really that concerned about your car being stolen. The advice on keeping valuables out of site and sterio face plates with you is good! Best bet is to keep valuables out of your car completely when you go to school. Another remedy is, find out where your coil wire is located on your car. Remove it and take it to class with you! A car that can't be started won't be stolen. It's highly unlikely that a thief will strip the car right there on campus. Another thing that can be done is to have patrols by security done instead of relying on the student manned tower. Just some suggestions for solution. This is my first post so I hope that this is appropriate to post for this topic.

Yes its a good reply. Cypress goes around giving tickets they don't care about anything else. If Cypress wasnt right across the street id never go there. There roofs and stuff leak every thing is old. If there was a earthquake I think we would all die. The school is so old and trashy.

Most car thieves go for old rare cars because they can sell the parts at a higher price. The more rare it is, the higher the price. The most stolen vehicles at Cal Poly Pomona have been Civic 2000 and Honda Accords. I once had to report a broken-in vehicle. Apparently they had just taken out the radio.

Another tip: park where there's a lot of transit.
