![]() | A shout out to the POLY POST: On the front page of your first issue of the fall term there is a headline that states: "CAL POLY TIED WITH CHICO FOR SIXTH BEST PUBLIC UNIVERSITY." Since this is a pomona newspaper the issue is not the fact that CP stated alone is the SLO campus and not its weakling sister. Rather it means at least FIVE universities from the list below are WORSE than Chico State and CPP if the post headline is correct: Cal UCLA Michigan UVA Indiana UCSD UNC-Chapel Hill Illinois Texas Wisconsin I can imagine how worried campus leaders in places like ann arbor and charlottesville must be about this "news" in our campus paper. yeah, i heard the prez claim that CPP is a "great" university, too. that should send chills into the hallowed halls at oxford, cambridge, yale, princeton, etc. but at least in that case it's obviously a far-fetched opinion and not fact. there is a term for all this hot air. it's called hubris. it's one thing to be proud of what you are, but quite another to be for things you are not. this is a flaw that has sent other universities into dark, unsought places and the same thing can happen here. poly post, you owe your readers a correction. the facts in a headline should stand alone, and this one does not pass muster. |

![]() | Still more of all that phony hype? Quote:
isn't this the same thing we discussed on the other thread when the magazine added a region/west, added a highest degree/masters, and added public/vs. private in order to inflate the university's stature. so the newspaper ignored all of this? great journalism, editor. i agree. issue a retraction. | |

![]() | An open letter to Ashley Schofield, Editor in Chief, Poly Post: Will you please train your staff to write accurate headlines? In your first issue you listed our university as the sixth best public university in the nation, which would place it in the same league as Berkeley and UCLA. This in fact is not true and you know it. In issue number three your lead headline reads: "FOUR COLLEGES TO BE DISSOLVED." This is news to Chancellor Reed and President Ortiz. as your own article states this is only a PROPOSAL. How do Poly Post staffers expect to get any kind of job in journalism with this kind of record regarding accuracy? The campus community deserves a response. |
