Paul Helms resigns!!!

oh man, things are going from bad to worse.

in today's paper is a piece that sez paul helms has resigned. no more webcasts from da man. he's going to cal state los angeles? that's like sleeping with the enemy!

and his replacement is hervey malone?

am sure glad to be graduating. outa here.

wow, what a HUGE loss for this university! i had just written a note to him earlier today since a friend had reported that he was looking over at the land of golden eagles. this marks a reunion between paul and dan bridges, who was athletics director here. amazing that there was no mention anywhere on our web pages. but i did notice subtle changes in the athletics releases of late. there have been a few factual and spelling errors that paul never committed, and most recently the site has not been updated as quickly or efficiently. telltale signs that the master was not minding the store, and we are less served because of this.

i remember paul as a first class professional, a well rounded scribe who was equally gifted in print and electronic realms. even tempered, but unafraid to call out bad refs who missed calls or took the easy way out when a home crowd should not have influenced the flow of a game. i suspect paul will land in the top tier sometime soon.

these will be huge shoes to fill. you can do this at the DI level, but in the DII world where funds are tighter the talent pool is thinner. i presume we will have yet another national search begun shortly to replace paul. also noteworthy is that the faculty athletics rep is turning over yet again. the new person will be the fifth in less than seven years. most schools have one for a decade or more. it's sheer madness.

That sad that Paul will not be part of the Broncos family. I wish the best for him in his future jobs. Xiaxoue I think you went overboard with the statment about Paul is sleeping with the enemy moving to Cal State LA. Xiaxoue I hope you are not done with the basketball team after you graduate. We need more alumnis to come to the games that one reason for the lack of performence. Not many past students go to the game after there time in Cal Poly Pomona.

Jay you are right some of the releases were a bit slow. I beat the Athletics website by announcing the recruits that the basketball team sign by four days. The reason why I believe it took them so long to announce the recruit because of the adjustment period. Anyways I expect Hervey will do a good job until they find a replacement. It seems like Hervey is only the temporary.

I only thing I am scared about is the lack of broadcast that will be available with Paul living. I mean there was already a limited amount of home brodcast this season. If they do not have any podcast of basketball games I will be willing to do it for free even though I am not that good. I do not mind if the play by play is not great as long as we get update on the game. I might write to the AD Brian Swanson for the need to podcast the basketball game next year.

paul is in fact listed over on the CSULA web site as their SID but amazingly is still listed on the poly site as SID. obviously he can't be covering both jobs. guess you're right...we are falling behind.

if this all results in a decrease of podcasts in the future, the basketball and most other sport programs here at CPP will probably suffer more from lack of student involvement.

yah, i always listened to him when i was at work and had to miss the games. this is really going to hurt bronco athletics, particularly basketball. and that seems to be the only sport with a winning team now.

write an email to Brian Swanson mentioning the importance of having somebody to do the play by play for basketball season next year. That is my plan when I have time. Right now I am kind of swamp with school work right now.

Not only am i glad you're graduating xiaxoue, i hope you are done with bronco basketball. I hope you dont post anything else next year! Im tired of your posts and you criticizing everything and every detail all the time. Jay, you're right, the releases have been a bit slow getting up on the site in the beginning but have since picked up. Paul is definitely a mastermind writer extraordinaire. No one will come close to filling his shoes. Props to hervey for stepping in and filling his shoes to finish out the school year.

The updates has been alot better. Honestly it wont be as good as Paul, but its getting better each week.
