| Active Member | Parking/Traffic Tips I'm starting a thread that includes parking/traffic tips while commuting to school: I head up the 57N from Orange County, and get off at Temple. Traffic is usually heavy southbound in the morning, and northbound in the evening. Thus, try to have morning/afternoon classes, since you'll be going against traffic. Watch the road "message board" signs for a traffic collision up ahead. Usually accidents occur where the 57 merges with the 60. If that is the case, you can get off the freeway at Pathfinder. Make a left after getting off the freeway, go over the freeway, then make a right onto Brea Canyon. You'll go down a hill next to the freeway. Watch out here because there is usually a cop at the bottom of the hill. Go all the way until the street ends (after the second set of train tracks). Make a right. You'll be on Valley Blvd. Take it all the way to Temple, then make a left and head to campus. The 57 always loads up where the 60 comes in. If it's especially heavy, you can bail out at Grand, but try to stay on until Temple Av. They are doing construction on Valley Blvd around Grand, so half of the road is out of service. I always park in lot B or K. Traffic is always heavy on S. Campus Drive heading to the F lots, and especially so with the construction they are doing for the Red Cross building. If you get on campus after 9:00AM, forget about parking in lots F, J, or M. Park in lots B or K. There are tons of spaces available, and the shuttle (shuttle C) is pretty reliable. You can either spend 15 minutes crusing the other lots looking for a space, or just park in B or K, and have a relaxing shuttle ride onto campus. If you decide to walk, it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get from my car in lot K to Building 9, so plan accordingly. After about 2:00PM, spaces start to open up in lots J and M, and after 3-4PM, you'll have no problems finding a spot in the F lots. If you get on campus at those times, park in those lots. |

| Active Member | Don't have a permit? If you forgot your permit (but you bought one) I believe you can go to the police station and pick up a temporary one-day permit. If you, like many of us, "vote with your dollars" against the $90 per quarter parking fee, here's where you can park: There is plenty of space along Valley Blvd. by the Village. There may not be space on the Village side of the street, but there is usually a lot of space along the train tracks. Check the village side of the street first (since it's safer) but if it's full, make a U-turn and park by the railroad tracks. Usually you can park here all day without a problem. Walk onto the Village and catch the A shuttle to campus. There is also space along Temple Ave, north of University (between Cal Poly and Mt. SAC). You can either walk onto campus, or walk into Lot K and catch the C shuttle. It took me about 20 minutes to go from my car to Building 9, since there's really no direct walking route. |

![]() | Thanks for the tips scanner... I guess I'll need to park on the street for a while until I find my permit I bought mine at the end of Fall, but can't find it anymore. I don't think they (Parking Services) would care... right?

![]() | I did. I had to fill out a short form, including both old (pulled from the computer) & new decal numbers. The form was supposedly turned in to the campus police, because its illegal to use the old permit any more. There's a heavy fine if one gets caught using the old decal. Luckily, the first replacement of the decal was free
