Parking Structure Groundbreaking/Impact (E-Mail)

PARKING STRUCTURE GROUNDBREAKING/TRAFFIC AND PARKING IMPACTS ON CAMPUS

The official groundbreaking ceremony for Parking Structure I will be held on Tuesday, February 8th. As a member of the campus community, you are cordially invited to attend. The details of the ceremony are available at http://polycentric.csupomon a.edu/polyupdates/invitation.jpg. The physical start of construction is slated to begin between February 14-25. Over the past two months, Parking and Transportation Services, in partnership with Facilities Design and Construction, have been working on a number of replacement parking projects to minimize the impact to you during the next 18 months of construction.

Even though the replacement parking projects will help offset the number of parking spaces lost during construction, you should be preparing now for the anticipated heavy impacts on campus traffic and limited parking availability. We encourage you to consider all of the following recommendations to help you in the upcoming weeks.

o If you typically arrive between 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, you are strongly recommended to arrive 30-45 minutes earlier than usual during the first couple of weeks of construction to find a parking space and allow for anticipated heavy campus traffic.

o To minimize your time finding a parking space, head straight to one of the peripheral lots of the campus: parking lots B, E, and K. Bronco Express, the campus shuttle system, runs every 10-15 minutes from these locations. A map of the campus can be found at: http://www.csupomona.edu/map/campus/broncoexpress.pdf

o Interested in the best parking spaces on campus? Please consider taking advantage of the Student Rideshare program. Just show up at the Parking Information Booth with two or more students in your car and they will give you a pass to park in the closest parking spaces. Please contact the Rideshare Program at 909/869-3233 for program information or to help find a rideshare partner.

We are excited to get started on the Parking Structure project, which will bring 2,400 badly needed new parking spaces to the campus for Fall 2006. Construction projects of this magnitude will certainly bring an occasional inconvenience and we appreciate your patience and understanding for the duration of the project.

At any time, please feel free to contact Parking and Transportation Services at (909) 869-3061 with any questions or concerns.
