I am writing to oppose the Governor’s proposed cuts to the California State University. If enacted, the CSU budget will have experienced over half a billion dollars in cuts in the past two years. These cuts will force the CSU to shut its doors to tens of thousands of eligible students.

Since Fall 2002 student fees have already increased by 43% for undergraduates and 50% for graduate students. Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposed fee increased would result in a fee increase of 58% for undergraduates and an even larger increase for graduate students.

I urge you to oppose any proposed cuts to the CSU. Students seeking educational opportunities – opportunities that benefit the state economically – should be given the greatest protections by the state as it considers options to address its financial problems.
