New Class Schedule Search

I don't know how many of you have tried it yet, but i have. The new way to search for class availability is soo FUUUUCKIN STUPID!!!

Why?

1) You can't just scroll down and pick the quarter anymore... there's a "SPECIAL CODE" for it... c'mon!!! why make this harder on the students?!?! there's NO REASON FOR IT... and even if we did need this "SPECIAL CODE" why not make it for example " Fall 2004" or something like that rather than having to type in "2045" (if im correct that is the code for fall)

2) you can't search to see what a specific department is offering that quarter. YOU HAVE TO TYPE IN THE EXACT CLASS!!! WHY!! I'm an MFE major (manufacturing engineering that is). It's hard to know what classes my department is offering next quarter... the past year especially... it's been very random. for someone like me, its important to see all the MFE courses that will be offered for that quarter... rather than having to type in EVERY SINGLE COURSE and checking if its being offered. I dont wanna have to type "MFE 126" "MFE 226" "MFE 310" "MFE 201" "MFE350" "MFE326" when just "MFE" should be sufficient. IT MAKES NO SENSE!!!

3) YOU HAVE TO CLICK ON THE LITTLE BUTTON TO GIVE YOU THE RESULTS of the classes. You can't just type in "ECE" on the first tab, and "252" on the next tab and just hit enter. If you do it will erase what you put. That just wastes time. Last time i remember, when i pressed enter, it gave me results.
Why change this also!?!?!

Whose idea was it anyways to change the whole interface?!!? How is it simpler than before?!!? Why spend the University's limited funds into something THAT ISN'T BROKEN, OR NEEDS REPAIRS OR MAINTENANCE?!?!

I don't know, maybe its just me ranting, but what do you guys think. Is the new way to check for course availability ONLINE better than before?

You bet it sucks, it was better as it was, the other day I tried to go to bronco direct but it was not working, now it is, I guess. I hate those weird codes.

You are all aware that the Broncodirect is powered by a PeopleSoft product.
Cal Poly Pomona must have a strong relationship with PeopleSoft or is it because PeopleSoft has all the solutions to our needs? In many classes, instructors are taught new softwares made by PeopleSoft to teach their course. Did anyone start using a PeopleSoft softwares?

Is the new system really that bad? Can't find my broncodirect number to try it out.

hey kaycee, don't you think that it's a tad bit BIASED to vote in the pool that the old way of searcing for classes is old and outdated EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVEN'T TRIED THE NEW SYSTEM YET?!!

it's like saying that vb4 is better than vb3 and that vb3 is outdated and useless, even though you haven't tried vb3 yet?!?!!?

What's the deal that you came up with PeopleSoft product? Does it means that all products from'em are good? Even if BroncoDirect was powered by Microsoft or IBM or something, it still sucks. I mean no disrespect though.

LOL! How'd you know I voted for the second option? You're good.
I was sharing of how PeopleSoft company is actively involved with Cal Poly Pomona. I assume Cal Poly Pomona dealt with PeopleSoft company to work on the new BroncoDirect website because of early relationship.
Microsoft and several other software companies offer student discounts on their softwares, which is a good marketing tactic.
I'm sure the BroncoDirect system is the best that the university board came up with, to accomodate all student's need. If you dislike the system and can come up with a better method, e-mail the coordinator(s) and I bet you they will listen.

i know because i made the poll public... i (i dont know if all you also) can see who voted, and on what option was voted on.
I saw that you voted that the old way is outdated... and like i said... seems REAL BIASED if you haven't tried the new way yet.

Now I feel your pain. Very difficult to simply browse through open classes because you need to know or search for the code numbers of each subject. This setup is taking up way too much of our time.

I haven't tried the new system nor will I because I am graduating just in time to never have to deal with it. I do beleive from how many people have told me though that the system is not user friendly. This is the fault of our administrators and the collabratave effort they have had with the entire CSU to swich over to peoplesoft.

As for wasting money... it is not! The old system wasted millions of dollars a year because it required many more administrative personnell to be on staff. The phone system worked but only partially, and it was ineffecient. Cal Poly has switched over to peoplesoft because the chancellor of the CSU forced all the schools to do it. The project is costing millions of dollars. The upside is when it is fully implemented(Which it is not even close to being) then the school can finally fire all those useless administrators who pick thier noses all day and eat up your tuition. The whole idea is about automating the process to be as efficient as possible.

Now as to the system being the wreck it is... maybe some of those administrators who sense thier firings coming are sabotaging the implementaion to slow the process. Just a guess but I think it is a good one.

we'll... im an efficiency guy (industrial engineering), so atleast seeing more guys fired while getting the same work done brings SOME comfort to me.

hey vipz... why did you vote differently than the rest? Kaycee already gave us his reason why he voted the way he did.
