![]() | Has the Monster Work For You? (E-Mail) Has the Monster Work For You? (Email) The Career Center is evaluating the service that MonsterTrak provides to students and would love for you to help us! We would love to know if you have found employment off campus using MonsterTrak. This could be full time or part time positions or internships. If you have, you can help us by replying with the following confidential information directly to me: This information will be used for our numerical reports and to measure the effectiveness of MonsterTrak to our students only. This information will not be shared. Your major? The name of the organization? Your job title? The name of your supervisor? Your hourly rate? The number of hours you worked weekly? When you started your job? (We are measuring only after Jul 2003 and you do not need to be a current employee. It could have been a summer or holiday job only). Your career center staff really appreciates your feedback and want to hear from you. Marcia Robinson, MBA Job Developer/Employer Relations/Career Counselor Career Center Building 97 Room 100

![]() | According to my conversations with staff of Career Center, online Resume building / submission / job search sites such as Monster only contribute to about 10% of all successful admission of applicants (10% of all job applicants found their job and subseqently admitted via web-base methods). Many companies now have their internal application and resume submission service, such as Boeing, JPL, Disney, GE, and CitiGroups. I find myself using Monster less and less, as many employers there are very non-responsive compare to results from career fair and on-site applications. |

![]() | I never bothered with Monster myself. I can't seem to remember the login information even although I have visited the Career Center few times to retrieve the password. ![]() Statistics show that a large percentage of jobs are introduced through networking. Employers tend to give colleagues, relatives and friends the priority when introducing open slots for a job, rather than a list of prospective candidates. Off topic: Would be nice to see large companies making a recruitment stop at Cal Poly Pomona instead of visiting only UC campuses.

![]() | LOL. I forgot my login information again. The career center takes less than 5 minute to retrieve or reset your login information so it shouldn't interfere with your schedule emmanalo.

| Fire-breather | Is MonsterTrak the same as JobTrak? When I graduated from CPP I searched through a system called JobTrak. I don't know if Monster.com was alive back then (1996). Employers submitted their job openings to a job listing system specifically for universities, so my chances were much better at finding a job than searching through a generic job listing site. Through JobTrak I was able to find the perfect position at a growing website development company. But if you're just relying on submitting your resume and hoping someone picks you among the crowd, forget it. In my recent job hunt I had to be very proactive in chasing the job openings. The only people that came to me (responded to my resume listing) were startups who couldn't pay much and possible scams ("earn $5000 a week working from home!"). Most companies who are worth working for won't be wasting their time reviewing a list of resumes on a job site. They're going to wait until interested people apply and then review those resumes. |

![]() | It's a fact that of all jobs that are available in the industry, about 10% are advertised while the other 90% are hookups, networking, under the table, etc. Monster has helped me land 2 job offers but I've heard about more jobs through friends. |
