mens game 2 vanguard, women game 1 armstrong atlantic

okay both the mens and women play tonight. I have class tonight so I can not make the game for the mens at Vanguard, but I will go to the womens game on campus. My take will be based on the box score for the mens. the womens will be based on what i see. Hopefully nothing like the Fullerton game.

on the road....at vanguard?

this is a sign of how broke our athletic budget is.

you'll notice that many other programs schedule good home opponents and even host tournaments. now we do neither. the reason is that we have an unattractive, aging facility and apparently no "guarantee" money to offer a team to play on our floor. in the past we've had north dakota state, BYU and montana state, and now all we can offer is le moyne? that will pack them in.

the sad result is a road trip to teams in lower classifications, like vanguard tonight.

meanwhile, our old league foe, bakersfield, has a very attractive home schedule even without conference affiliation. go figure.

sure a good thing we have a conference as that requires quality teams visit kellogg gym. but this poor state of affairs make it that much tougher for coach k. to build his program further.

and of course no webcast again. probably no box score posted either, and this time it's unlikely we'll have anything much on the vanguard side of it either.

I am sick right now.I can not believe the mens team lost to Vanguard according to the live updates. I mean does the team have a lack of chemestry or they are not playing much defense. we will see next week when the broncos come home and play monterey and sf st. here are the stats for the broncos. angelo come back from his disappointed opener and scored 21 pts making 5-9 from 3pt range, but 4 turnovers. L gordon had 16 pts with 8 rebs. Collins had 7 pts and daniels had 6. the Broncos were up by 9 in the first half but fell a part in the second half getting outscored by 13 in the second half. I can not say what happen but I got to say the Broncos need to get their act together if they dont this will be a disappointing season for the broncos.

In other note the women basketball lost. they look good at times but fell apart in the second half

so far, this has been a very slow start for our Broncos... hopefully they'll turn it around back home.

Jay, I totally agree with you.. we need to update our facilities and or least make it an effort to market our CPP's athletics better. For example, we could use a new website. The materials on the site are pretty date and there are no updates or webcast. No wonder that even around campus, students don't even know much about CPP basketball or any other sports.

actually it look like we will have some podcast of broncos basketball. I saw hervey and SID doing the brodcast for the women game hopefully they will have brodcast for all of the road games in the CCAA.

At least the recaps are getting better. at least it contain more info than in the past. Anyways hopefully the struggles for the men and women end next week against SF state and Monterey.

getting better? than what? sixth grade level reporting? once again, no stats were posted for the mens game. and over on the womens side, no data at all are posted on the entire team--the web says "file not found."

and you say there was a podcast? that's great when NOBODY KNOWS IT. that's like having a debate with an empty chair. unless they were just "practicing" to their own personal tape recorder. two years ago we not only had webcasts for every game, but also a number of videocasts. one of the classics, versus the hated coyotes, is still posted online.

now, on to the teams. when our five time national champion women lose at home to somebody called "armstrong atlantic" and our conference contender men are forced to go on the road to play a bottom tier NAIA school and also lose, we appear to be in for a very long season. and because neither team did the prep work to the depth that a program like san bernardino did now we're already going into league play next with two wandering, little tested teams, both winless.

don't blame the coaches, though. they do the best they can with the little they are given. it just seems we are falling farther and farther behind, and the minimal support the university offers makes matters worse.

lorena marquez is doing some good things to market our teams, but if they appear dazed and listless and keep blowing big halftime leads as both teams did last night we'll be back to having "crowds" of 200-300.

the only good news is we draw the weakest program in the conference, at home, to open league play. but winning by two or three points won't get it done, or this campaign will be long and ugly.

i finally found a box score, of course on the vanguard site and not ours.

broncos shot 46 per cent from the line, which is worse than the lousy charity shooting we had against the gauchos.

by comparison, my junior high team in santa monica shot 58 per cent, with 46 per cent somewhere near our season low. and we were 11 and 12-year-olds.

donelle has improved. he's gone from 0-6 to 2-6 from the line. this dude should spend an hour a day doing nothing but shooting free throws.

I agree jay we might be in for a long season if they do not get it together, but atleast its early and maybe we get our loses early. I hope coach k make the whole team shoot alot of free throws. i mean its pathetic for a team to shoot 50% for two games. we got to look at the positive its only the first two games of the season, and their is still plenty of time for the broncos to get their act together and make a run in the tournament.

you guys need to join the titan nation. we are 4-0 now, but don't expect that to continue. we play at arizona next and then stay on the road for a month.

am sure glad i got out when i did. broncos won the national womens title when i was first coming to cal poly, and our men won two regionals.

losing to vanguard and armstrong tile, looks like the glory days are over.

X-Man, stay off this site if you're going to be talking about Fullerton. WE DONT CARE BUDDY! Both teams got off to a rough start but the women will have a good season under new coach scott davis. Looks like he has his team fighting out there and actually playing to win. The men's team needs to get it together, and with the mastermind of coach k, he will NOT stand for a losing season. It's still early in the season..

PS. How's your girlfriend doing these days by the way?

I actually like scott davis as the women coach. He has alot of energy and you can see the team looks more united than past years. We all know coach K will not let these team have a losing season, but i kind expected more in the start season. I mean this team is filled will some good players and i expected the team to play better in the start.

xiaxoue why are you mentioning Fullerton after the exhibition game. Until the NCAA tournament start then maybe i will care about fullerton. we all know that you are there and you change your broncos gear for titan gear you do not need to mention how fullerton is doing when we want to talk about broncos basketball. I might as well talk about ucla since you are mentioning fullerton

welcome back, hall of fame...and now i REALLY wish we played fullerton home and home like 30 years ago just for all the smack we would be getting between you and xiaoxue. you two are great at sharing the love....

agreed, let's give our new coach some time, and BOTH coaches more support.

lakdod, did you catch the bruins game on TV last night? it was like an NCAA title game...and imagine how tough the bruins will be with All American darren collison back to quarterback the team. michigan state put FIVE big men, 6-10 and taller, on kevin love, and he outscored and rebounded all of them combined, while two of them fouled out trying to stop him.

xiaoxue, i might head down to titan gym once this year but what i really want to do is see the bruins more than once at pauley. they are playing almost at a professional level. even though oregon got upset last night i see the return of the pac ten to national prominence this year.

It was not like a national championship game, but it was a battle of two top ten teams in the mantion. i caught the second half of the game after the women collapse in the second half. It was a good comeback by the bruins. the women coach reminds me of howland during the game. i mean he is really into the game which I really like to see. i expect the womens program to rise and surprise a few teams this year.

continue of my other post. Xiaxoue I would not be so proud of Fullerton 3-0 start. they beat bakersfield and Cal state LA. I guess they have to beat up a former CCAA or a CCAA team to pad the stats and southern Utah who is a really bad team. Maybe you start bragging when you beat arizona and central michigan and please do not mention Fullerton until you play SLO. then maybe you could comeback and talk about fullerton. this should be a Cal Poly thread not a Fullerton thread.

In other news next week game against sf state and monterey is big for both team. starting off undefeated will boost the confidence of both teams and will hopefilly lift the team to the tournament

what i meant was the caliber of play, not the atmosphere.

yeah, good to get a head start with 2-0 in league play but beating two of the weaker teams at home hardly is going to lift anybody into the post season. it appears we are a work in progress, and we need to make a ton of it in a hurry.

i wonder if we'll have a couple more phantom podcasts? i checked again and there were no links anywhere for either men or women.

cut xiaoxue some slack. after all, he has the only undefeated team and we don't. but xiaoxue tell us what you think of the mustangs when you see them since this is a poly board.
