![]() | MDPT January 17, 2004 Test MDPT REGISTRATION: January 17, 2004Scores are valid for Spring, Summer and Fall Quarters 2004. WHICH TEST FOR WHICH COURSE? Take the Math Analysis MDPT if your goal is to complete any of the following courses:
The Math Analysis level: Administration time 90 minutes / test portion 55 minutes / 45 questions. The PreCalculus level: Administration time two hours / test portion 90 minutes / 60 questions. A FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE MATH DIAGNOSTIC PLACEMENT TEST The MDPT is a diagnosis test that determines placement in the math curriculum at Cal Poly, Pomona. There is no fee for the MDPT. The test places students in preparatory math courses and in General Education-level courses. It does not place students higher than Math 114 (Analytic Geometry & Calculus I) and Math 130 (Technical Calculus I). Students wishing to enter the math curriculum at a level higher than these two courses may need to show proof of prerequisite course work or Advanced Placement test scores. Prerequisites to all courses in the Preparatory Math Program (PMP) and most General Education courses must be satisifed within the three quarters prior to the quarter in which the course is to be taken. Students how have successfully completed one mathematics course may take within three quarters another mathematics class with identical or lower prerequisites without taking the MDPT again. Studens may also place into certain G.E. mathematics courses through recent ELM, SAT or ACT scores. See the information flyer from the Math Department. SATISFACTION OF ELM TEST REQUIREMENT students must satisfy the ELM in one of four ways: - Exemption from the ELM due to ACT score, SAT math score, Math Achievement Test score, Advanced Placement Math test score, or transfer credit for an approved G.E. - level math class. (Please check the current Schedule of Classes for the exact scores required, or ask at the Test Center, located in the CLA Building near the Records Office.); - ELM scores of 550 or higher if taken before March 23, 2002 or a score of 50 or higher if taken March 23, 2002 or after; - For students accepted prior to Fall '98, ELM test taken prior to January 1998; - For students accepted Fall '98 or later, by having achieved an ELM score below 550 or 50 (for tests starting march 23, 2003 and after) and having completed necessary preparatory math work. VALIDITY OF TEST RESULTS Starting Fall Quarter 1998, MDPT scores and G.E. - level math course grades are valid for only three quarters and must be used within that period. This means that students may skip two quarters of math enrollment but my not skip three quarters. This includes Summer Quarter. Students who do not use their MDPT scores or grades while they are valid will have to retake the MDPT. Note that placement is made on the basis of valid test scores or course grades, even if that placement is lower than course work previously completed. Students may not take two MDP tests with periods of validity that voerlap by more than one quarter.

| Active Member | Hey! If you need help with the MDPT... The LRC (Learning Resource Center) has tutors available, as well as a free packet with sample problems and answers to help you study... The LRC has tutors and a lot of subjects from all colleges (or at least almost all), so if you need help, remember that that's a good resource... [um, yeah, I'm a tutor, therefore all the ad for it :P] |

![]() | I heard it is about $4 dollars per hour in the Learning Resource Center. Great price for a one-on-one help. Or you can ask questions here on the forum and hope someone can lend a hand. ![]()
