Instructors accepting late work

I have received a PM from a freshman member here at Cal Poly Forum regarding late assignments.

Quote:
Does all the teacher accept homewor from email. Because i didn't go to school today, and some essay are due in two classes, and i am very concern about it. So can you tell me if they will accept my homework from email or not?
Not completing your homework assignment by the due date can be very frustrating (been there ). Now you are thinking, I should skip the next class and think of a very good excuse for the absense. Guess what? Whether you have a doctor's note for your absence or your car broke down, it all depends on your professor whether he/she will accept the late assignment or not.

On your first day of class, your instructor usually informs the classroom of the course requirement and the grading system. Goes over the syllabus of relevant information such as: if the attendance is taken, if late assignments will be accepted, will there be extra credit opportunities, and so forth.

Pay good attention during the instructor's speech. If you are lost and can not find your answer on the syllabus, be sure to speak up or talk to the instructor after class. Now going back to the late assignments, the instructor either receives the late assignment or does not. And if the instructor does receive late assignment, he/she will expect a reasonable excuse with maybe an official note (from a doctor, funeral, airfare ticket, etc.). Some instructor requires you to send the late assignment via e-mail or sometimes fax it to their office. Just do what they want you to do and problem solved for the both of you.

It all comes down to time-management freshmans. Start your assignment rather than to come up with a brilliant excuse for your absence. Then college will not be as stressful as it sounds.

It's college. You will take a hit if you procrastinate. Simply do everything as soon as possible... it's hard, but that's why they call it college. You will learn to quit your habits and force yourself into a world you had never imagined...
