i'm assuming that the first year connection is sierra madre or yosemite dorms which are a longer walk to the center of campus, but you room with people of all sorts of majors. The living-learning are the red brick ones, which are people all of the same college. Dorms suck. Go to housing.calpoly.edu and look for off campus housing.

lol finally! thanks for replying twalsh i chose sierra madre for my first choice and then santa lucia my second choice. i can still change my mind before the deadline, which is months away from now..haha well i guess i should live in dorms, just to get to know more people my first year and then i'll be off to somewhere else off-campus with friends..i guess. do a lot of people ride bikes?? i didn't see a lot when i was visiting...but that was probably because i went there on holidays. is it really that far?? well i guess walking'd be a great exercise for me..hhaha

lots of people have bikes, but don't bring a good one unless you leave it in your room, cuz there's definetly some crooks around. Sierra Madre isn't that bad of a walk. Yosemite is the worst.
