| Newcomer | Decision Help Do you guys think I will be able to make it into Cal Poly, SLO with a 4.0 GPA, 1200 SAT? I'm currently out of state, but I plan to attend Cal Poly SLO. I'm currently involved in NHS, and Key Club. Also, I was wondering if it is possible if I could attend UNLV for 1 year to spend my state $10,000 scholarship, and then transfer to Cal Poly SLO my sophmore year in college. Thanks in advance |

![]() If I was in your shoes, I would not be worried. I would choose the UNLV route as it is an economical decision. Save money for yourself and your parents. UNLV is one of the top university for Hotel & Restaurant Management so it has a very good reputation. Maintain a good GPA and you shouldn't have a difficulty transferring to Cal Poly SLO after a year or two. Good luck. And why not apply to both university and tell us your result.

| Newcomer | lol I don't plan on majoring in hotel management, I plan on majoring in Computer Engineering. The reason why I chose Cal Poly as my top priority was because I heard it was one of the top schools in the nation. UNLV is just a safety, just in case I dont' get accepted into Cal Poly. |

See whether your school will let you stay one more year so that you can be a super senior and all underclass high school students will start looking up to you. ![]()

![]() | i don't know what you are going to get out of hanging around high school for another year. what will you learn that you don't already neeed? maybe if you live in vegas go to your local school for a year as you say, that's okay as a transition away from home. but nevada schools are pretty weak academically. cal poly slo is a bit higher ranked than pomona but both have incredibly strong engineering programs. i go to pomona and the real reason is that here you get all those internships while you are still in school. what do you have near slo...nice views and not much more. |
