A dorm is a dorm, no matter where you go. In fact, most of the CSU's have the exact same dorm buildings!

CPP also has suites, which are brand new. Not sure yet if housing will allow freshman to live in the suites. Those are SUPPOSED to be for sophs or higher. If you can find a local apt, great. But nothing beats the ability to roll out of bed 20 mins before class starts...

Usually they have a big screen TV, a pool table that's all lumpy and near-unplayable, and a lounge area.

I recommend living in the dorms if this will be your first year. Short distance to classes, buffet meals, and a gym for your convenience. One thing that I disliked about living in the dormitory was the meal plan and the point system.

If you're looking for a dorm that is actually interesting, socializing, etc., get in any of the brick building dorms. If you want to focus mainly on your academics, pick the cement buildings. There's a big difference between them believe it or not.

Dorms are split up by colleges, or at least some of them. Like Montecito usually has students from Environmental Design. I have to say the worst building to be in is Palmitas, unless you enjoy being unsocial and like listening to silence.
