CIS TEST--what do they test you on?

Can someone please explain to me what the CIS test is all about? I'm supposed to take the test before fall starts because of my major Business. I just want to know what it is about so i can prepare for it. Thanks in advance for any help!!

Hi Uranus, the CIS exam you've registered is a very simple exam. The exam is a performance based test taken with a pc. The test is time based and each question asks the student to perform a specific yet simple task in Microsoft Office.

I don't remember which Office software the exam cover but you can find more info searching online or picking the sheet in the test center. MOst likely it will be Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.

Basically the exam test whether the student knows the basic skills to properly use the Microsoft Office software.

Go get one of them study guides for the Microsoft Office 2003 and study the first few chapters that covers the basic. Good luck and don't sweat it.

Excel and Word. Remember there's no short cut via keyboard, everything must be pressed by mouse (go for the icon not menu!) Get the study guide and make sure you know how to do everything that's listed.

Thank you guys very much for the responses. Really appreciate it. I'm taking it next month. Hopefully i'll pass. I heard that i will pass the test only if i have 60% of higher.

I'm not sure about the test you are taking, but for the CIS101 class you have to get 70% or higher on each test to pass. They are Windows XP, Word, Powerpoint and Excel.

I also took CIS 101 instead of the exam and you need to get 70% or higher and the results come right away after the test.
The good thing about the class is, the professor let you retake the test if you fail.

When you borrow the study guides, you don't need to go past the first half section of the book or so. The advanced features of Microsoft Word and Excel are not asked during the exam.
If you visit the campus bookstore, check the textbook sold for CIS 101 (or check online), check the title, research online and see the topics taught in the book. It should help you get started.
