CIS Coders and Programmers

For those who are majoring in CIS, do you learn Javascripts, C++, PHP, and advanced languages?

And are students assigned projects where a group of CIS students create and develop a project of their own? Projects can include scripts, softwares, bug tracker, and etcera.

They don't teach Javascript and PHP for CIS.

However, there are a few C++ classes at different levels but Cal Poly mainly focuses on Java programming.

There are a few web design/developing courses, including an e-commerce application development in the curriculum. I am not sure what kinds of projects are assigned since I have not taken these courses yet. Maybe you can find them on the professors' websites...? There's also a Database Design and Development using SQL.

You can find the CIS Curriculum here, which includes brief descriptions about each courses they offer.

I am a big php fan

I see. Would be great to see CIS, CS, ECE and e-Business majors collaborating and forming a project of our own. Work on a new project (i.e. Mozilla Firefox) and develop as an open-source or some other format. Plus for the student's resume and for the school. Heck, if it turns out, the project can be supported (financially) by the university. Who knows when this will happen.

Bet php is on the top favorite list for many programmers. .php growth is quite impressive.

Are you advanced/experienced in php Bronco?

It would really be difficult to manage such a project because students are busy as it is with their studies and stuff. However, it would really be a great experience for people involved in it.

Yeah, it's becoming more and more popular for web programming among new web developers. It's easy to catch up since php is based on C, and the ability to add MySQL functionality makes it so powerful. Not to mention, it is free!

I know a lot about php, but I wouldn't say I am an advanced coder. Somewhere between intermediate and advanced I guess. Though I've been using php for a couple of years now... as far as experience goes.
