*Choosing and Distinguishing majors. Cal Poly*

hello everybody
if you guys have any advice or comments, please do so
good feedback will help me alot

i was wondering if there is a construction management major in cpp
or any other major that will have these fields in mind (other than architecture)...
general concepts in mind so far
1) construction and materials
2) cost of materials
3) real estate developement
4) constuction management
5) marketing
6) general contracting

A degree that will allow me to get directly into a field where properties are bought and then "flipped" out and resold. Im interested in architecture but, i have a broader sense of interest.

so im thinking maybe a construction management career? am i wrong?

thanks for reading and if you have any feedback, please respond to this thread

Construction Management Certification Offered in CPP

Construction management along with architecture is a powerful combination hand in hand. I don't know if CPP offers construction management but if it does, I believe it would be under the college of engineering.

In Cal Poly Pomona, you can obtain the Construction Management Certificate from the College of the Extended University.

Courses: Managerial Specialty Certificate
  • Cash and Financial Management
  • C.P.M. Scheduling
  • Estimating Management
  • Introduction to Construction Software
  • Managing a Construction Business
  • Project Administration and Management

Courses: Technical Specialty Certificate
  • Accounting Aspects of Construction
  • Basic Estimating and Bidding
  • Labor & Employee Law and Managing Employee Relations
  • Legal Aspects of Construction
  • The Negotiation
  • Safety in Construction

You can read the full details at http://www.ceu.csupomona.ed u/courses/trade/constrmancert.asp. The pros and cons to pursuing the CEU offered courses are as follow:
Pro
  • Gain valuable knowledge and skills
  • Meet industry professionals; network and find a job
  • Marketability; resume
Cons
  • Expensive tuition; $340 per course ("education is expensive but ignorance is costly...")
  • Non-Credit; does not apply towards your undergrad curriculum
  • Difficult; may be challenging for a lowerclass undergraduate student because the program is marketed towards industry professionals with experience in the field
