![]() | THE 411: FALL INTO SAFE HABITS It's Fall Quarter and the campus is hopping again. Have fun, but be sure to keep an eye on your stuff. That Organic Chemistry textbook you just bought may not be your favorite read, but it's a valuable item. Do what you can to minimize opportunity for thieves. Keep your backpack, laptop, cell phone, and digital camera with you. Lock your dorm room, even if you're just going next door. Secure valuables in your car trunk. Invest in a Club or anti-theft device. Use the lockers at Los Olivos and the Bronco Bookstore. Studying in the Library? Keep your eyes open, literally; thieves love a "sleeper." On campus at night? Use the "buddy system" and walk with friends, or request a Parking and Transportation Services CSO escort at (909) 869-3070. During fall months traffic safety is an important consideration as well. Remember to turn on your car's headlights as soon as visibility is diminished. Wet weather is on its way; turn on the headlights (now required anytime you must use your windshield wipers) and drive even more slowly. Inspect key vehicle components: tire tread wear, brakes, wipers and light bulbs for turn signals, brake lights, etc. Be "eyes and ears" for our University Police department. If you see something that doesn't seem right, call University Police at 869-3070. Dial 911 in an emergency or crime in progress. For more information on campus safety, go to www.dsa.csupomona.ed u/police or contact Kris Surber at (909) 869-4139. |
