I really want to be able to attend CPP architectural college next fall. The applications for next fall are due oct-nov i believe.
Ill be a transfering student. by that time my gpa is roughly going to be 3.3 with the past 12 months working avg. 40 hours per week. Im going to try and join the arch club at city coll. of sf if they have one as well.

I have a few worries about getting into the college though. Since it is an impacterd major how are my chances looking?

Does SLO's arch program out-class pomonas by far? if so, can anyone please help explain and maybe weigh out the two colleges?

are there any tips/advice you have that i can do in the meant time that will boost my chances of being accepted?

i am honestly very motivated/excited to get there and honestly am mind set to work hard to get there. as of now i am full time at work (graveyard) and full time at school as well.

Im beginning my first arch classes in less than 2 weeks XD. All my gen.ed classes are completed. will be taking all my physics and calculus supplements and have all the arch classes as well planned out to be completed before next summer. im planning to keep my job until i transfer.

am not sure you can get in to either arch program with that GPA.
as i understand it the selection rate at pomona is eight per cent and only about six per cent at SLO, which is rated in some places as the best nondoctoral public in the west.
have heard of students with 3.7 and above getting turned down.
very, very selective program on both campuses.

are you sure that applies to transfer students as well? Arent there different specifications in admissions between transfering from a community college and high school right? :sweating:

I'm a landscape architect major. I don't have specifics about architecture but it is under the same college of Environmental Design, so I sometimes hear about it.

It is very hard to get into. I know in 2002 (the year I started) they had over a 1000 applicants but only 80 opennings. They encouraged the others to major in either landscape architecture or in urban regional planning. Both of these majors deal with designing spaces, but at different scales. As of now neither of these majors are impacted. If your interest in design isn't limited to buildings, you may want to consider these majors.

The work load for landscape architecture is considerable. In most majors the typical time commitment per week per unit is three hours. For the L arch classes you need to triple it to about nine hours per unit. Architecture is even more time intensive. I don't think anyone in that major ever gets to sleep. I mention this because if you are planning on working fulltime and majoring in architecture at CPP, you should reconsider.

I don't mean to discourage you. If you have your heart set on architecture then you should definitly pursue it. Your best chance of getting in as a transfer student is to put together a terrific portfolio. Check with you architecture instructors at the community college for tips about creating your portfolio.

Cal Poly architects, what are some of the reasons as to why the College of Architecture do not increase the number of enrollments?
