Cal Poly Pomona Area

Hello,

I'm going to Cal Poly Pomona in the Fall. I'm not going to be living in Pomona. These are some of the areas I was looking at. The thing is, I don't know what the areas are like. So can you guys please give me some feedback on what the area is like? Like is it a good area or a bad area? Stuff like that! Thank!

Diamond Bar
La Puenta
Chino/Chino Hills
Rowland Heights
La Habra/La Habra Heights
Los Serranos
West Covina
El Monte
Valinda
Hacienda Heights
Walnut
Upland
Ontario
Montclair
La Verne

This is just some that I noticed that is somewhat near Pomona. If there's a better area that you guys might feel better suited. Then please, give me some feedback! Thanks

I live in Rowland Hts. which is about 10-15 min drive. Its nice area but the problem will be rent. The price of rent is high in the area of Rowland Hts. The price is also kind of expensive in D. Bar, Chino Hills, Hacienda Hts, and Walnut area. La puente and La Habra area is an okay but I would not want to live there but you should find cheaper rent in those cities. I would recomend that you live in the village its right across the street from campus, but if you going to live outside of Pomona. If looking for housing in other cities you might also look at San Dimas, Glendora to those cities that you listed. Well good luck in trying to find a place.

you forgot to include the city of Covina. As opposed to what most people think, West Covina and Covina are two different cities that are adjacent to one another. However, they are not the same.

Covina is much nicer and cheap. It's about 5 minutes away from cal poly and the majority of the population that lives in Covina is old retired people, so it makes it a safer environment considering that Azusa and West Covina are just around the corner. The rent can vary from $300 to $600 a month. It's a middle-income city, so that means that most of the places in Covina are not ghettos. There may be one or two, but in the four years that I've been living here I haven't heard any shootings or car wrecks or any gangs hanging around the corners. The streets are typically clean and orderly. There aren't that many bars or hang out place in Covina, making it a better place for older folks to live in. But you know that when you live around here, you still have to travel where the fun is.

If you want more suggestions on where to live, go down on Grand and Barranca, going northbound from the 10 freeway, and you'll find blocks and blocks of apartment buildings. Most have gated parking and are affordable.

Hope this helps.

walnut and diamond bar are less than five minutes away but are on the expensive side as is claremont. if budget is an issue covina is a good choice as is san dimas and laverne.

Why do you exclude the city of Pomona? There are many apartments five minutes away from campus.

I dunno any place with rent like that anywhere around the Pomona area. Are you sure that's accurate? Most apartments i've seen in the area go from around $750 to $1250 a month.

Yes but many of us prefer not to have our cars stolen, or mugged, or deal with gang members down the street.
