Exclamation Cal Poly Pomona...

I will be an entering freshman for the fall 2005 school year. I applied to both Cal Polys however I was only admitted into Pomona. San Luis Obispo was my first choice mainly due to the environment surronding the campus. I was just wondering if you could offer me some advice on the school as well as some general information about the social activities, etc. Thanks so much for your help!

There's a lot of walking at Cal Poly - I use a Razor kick scooter to get around.
Technically, these are illegal on campus, so don't ride around near any cops.

Cal Poly has a somewhat laid-back atmosphere, both in the students, and in the faculty. Oftentimes, a teacher will say "if a cellphone rings in this class, the student gets an F." I've seen it happen five times, and those teachers were okay with it as long as the students were respectful.

The voice registration / online registration usually has errors. Expect to be delayed by some dumb glitch in the system.

If you want to save some money, you can park on Temple Ave instead of paying $100 for a parking permit.

Hmmm.... that's about it. It's a normal college environment.

Thanks so much for the information I really do appreciate it. Are there any fantastically greast reasons why you think someone should attend Pomona?

The quality of education at that price is unbeatable (at least I believe I have so far).

the only deal better than pomona...

is SLO!!!
the problem is that it is even harder to get admitted there than pomona.
but if you want to major in HRT pomona is better anyway.
plus you have all the LA internship opportunities that you can't get on the central coast.

Are you still waiting for a response from other campuses? If Cal Poly Pomona is your only choice, there you go. Otherwise, CPP is a great school.

1) NEXT TO LA!!! LA HAS EVERYTHING!!! SOCIALLY... you'll do VERY GOOD... esp since your a girl.

2) depends on your major.

3) depends on where your commuting from (if not dorms), traffic can be a killer.

4) We use the quarter system... so time flies fast. You get done with classes faster.

Thank you all for your feedback. I really appreciate the information! I have been accepted to Fresno, Humboldt, Chico, Pomona, and Long Beach. My current major is psychology however I am interested in going pre-med. I'm not sure if a state school would be the place to do this or if it would be smarter to attend a JC for two years and then transfer into a UC. I graduated from high school a semester early and have already begun taking calsses at a local junior college to get ahead on my credits and it doesn't seem to be as bad as everyone makes it out to be. However, I am still visiting all the colleges that I have been accepted to so that I am able to make an educated decision. I will be in Pomona next weekend. I'll let you all know how it goes! :0) Thanks so much for all the hasty responses. It's been very helpful. Please feel free to add more!

Welcome to the fourm and to Cal Poly Pomona. I am a psychology major also. This is my second year at Cal Poly and so far it has not been too bad. I definitely struggled my first year, but now I'm ok. Here is a link with some good info. It list the classes that you have to take at Cal Poly Pomona if you want to remain in psychology. Go to http://www.csupomona.edu/%7Ejwsturge...ing/psych.html. See you around campus.

Went and visited Pomona last week. I really enjoyed the campus and the surronding area. It doesn't appear as if much happens there, but I think that might help me in my success. As of now it's between CPP and Long Beach....

Stop being so shallow and prejudice!

Her pix has NOTHING to do with her person. Remember... it's the inside that counts!!
