![]() | Cal Poly Pomona VS San Luis Obispo I am planing on applying to either Cal Poly Pomona or San Luis Obispo. I just wanted to know what is the difference between the two schools and which one is easier to get into. I am still undecided on what my major will be, but I am considering computer engineering. Also which school do you go to and how do you like it there? Please reply soon because I only have a few days left... Last edited by Harmony; 10-25-04 at 08:44 PM. |

Also which school do you go to and how do you like it there? i know both schools very well and have many friends at both. slo is ranked first academically in the 23 campus csu system and pomona is a close second. both are better than some of the uc's. pomona has about 3,000 more students so is bigger overall but only has 3,000 students who live on campus while slo has more than 6,000 on campus so more a residential campus. both campuses are very beautiful but slo is stuck in the middle of nowhere while pomona is a half hour to the beach or the mountains or downtown. so much more action. slo is better in engr and arch while pomona is stronger in business and has the second best hosp mgmt program in nation. i think the main difference is if you want more a suburban or more rural campus. they are more alike than almost any other universities in the country. can't go wrong either place. both are strong in computer pgms and engr. |

![]() | I got to Cal Poly Pomona. An average chance for Pomona and a slim chance to San Luis Obispo due to your weak SAT score. Either way, apply to both universities since there is not much you can do now. If you still have time to take another SAT exam and improve your SAT score, go for it.

I am not quite sure but you might have read correctly. You should do more research online or hopefully, someone here on the board could answer that.

I'm not here to say that CSULA is a better school than Cal Poly Pomona, but if anyone gets rejected from CPP and ends up going to CSULA, don't feel bad. CSULA is a good school. When the previous post said that CSULA is "a bottom feeder", I felt I had to correct it. Regardless if you go to CPP, CP SLO, or CSULA, you'll be in good hands educationally.

| Cal Poly Guru | Personally, I'd go to Pomona because you have easier access to outside life (beaches, snowboarding, etc). SLO is ranked higher for engineering, so if ALL you care about is 100% brain draining studying...can't go wrong with SLO. Otherwise, see you in Pomona. ![]()

as for csula and the previous post every ranking i have seen, about eight, all rank csula anywhere between 9th and 16th in the 23 campus system. okay, maybe not on bottom but not so hot either. after slo (first) and pomona (second) the other top tier csu's are chico, sonoma and the maritime academy. none of those in the south.

![]() | It was about 3 years ago, but a friend of mine got in Cal Poly Pomona with an average gpa (~3.4) and didn't take the SAT and got in at Pomona. Talk with an advisor. Maybe things have changed in the past couple of years and it's harder now, but I know a couple years ago Pomona was letting in anyone with a gpa of 3.0 and better with/without SAT & ACT scores.... |

![]() | Dude, UC are getting more competitive than ever! GPA and SAT score is not the only factors that the UC admissions look at. My h.s. class member got accepted to UCLA with a 950 SAT score but a high GPA and active in school to some extent.
