![]() | I just finished my application today and i'm planning on taking the SAT again in December. I also wanted to know when do they tell you if your accepted or rejected and does Cal Poly Pomona require you to maintain certain GPA your senior year once you get accepted? |

San Luis Obispo is basically a college town, a really nice one, something I would prefer over the smoggy brown/yellow/gray LA area. The beach(Pismo Beach) is closer, about 10 miles away if you're a beach bum. Then there's the crazy events they have there, such as Mardi Gras which ended last year with police in riot gear shooting tear gas or just driving an hour to Santa Barbara for Halloween weekend (which is crazy as hell). Cal Poly Pomona on the other hand is almost the exact opposite in college life/atmosphere. CPP is basically a commuter school, meaning that there are less students then SLO that live on campus and the rest commutes to school. Don't even bother about parties, weekends on campus are dead and the only real parties are the lame Frat Parties. Nothing really special happens in CPP either, no crazy event's like Cal Poly SLO's Mardi Gras or UCSB's Halloween. The only good thing is that it's in the LA area, so you can go clubbing or whatever you like to do. If you're already from the LA area, then you're probably bored. If you lived in the LA area your whole life so far, I recommend entering a new environment rather then going to CPP Pomona. You'll probably find it a much better experience away from home (living in the middle of nowhere are some of you guys said it) rather then staying in the SoCal area. |

Sorry to hear about your crappy dorm situation. But a lot of colleges have academic enhancement or study dorms. Perhaps you picked the wrong building to live in that year, or perhaps you didn't bothered to ask the person to turn down the music, get a RA, or use the study room.

But anyway, if you like socializing dorms are a great environment for that, no matter what school you go to. I made some great friends there. Like Nate said, if you like partying then maybe consider a party school instead of CPP. But if you're a light sleeper and aren't into the party scene like me, then CPP is a good place to be.

However, it is strongly recommended to maintain your current grades. I do know someone in my art class who was accepted to CPP and later on got a D in his language arts class, however he still made it in (since he brought it up to a low C by the last couple weeks of his senior year) - I'll keep him anonymous since he probably browses here and probably knows who I am. In other words, don't get anything below a C in any required class.

| Fire-breather | Security? You'll need to be more specific. Do you mean walls around the city limits? Security around the banks? Crime levels? Number of arrests? How safe your bike is chained to a parking meter? How ready they are for terrorist bombings?

| GCP.com Admin | I can speak first hand that Pomona ain't that safest of places. I think the school averages like 6 car thefts a week, and 20 breakins. But that's out of 26000 students so it's almost an expected evil. I feel safe around campus, even in the midnight hours... nothing is really going on. I see no crack dealers, or anyone really get attacked too much. There's the occasional petty robbery of a backpack, and small stuff like that... but nothing life threatening. Pomona has a lot of people around the poverty line so crime can go up as you move closer to the city, but the college is quite a distance from the place and I rarely hear of much unusual happenings. |
