Exclamation BRONCOS LAST TEAM IN STATE STILL DANCING!

cal state fullerton just lost to georgetown in the national invitation tournament.

that means our men are the last team from the entire state of california still playing college basketball!

3.5 hours until SHOWTIME! Xiaoxue, love your prediction. I will agree, CPP up by 8.

If you come to campus today for any reason, be sure to sport some green and gold!

BRONCOS 26, TEXANS 20

TWENTY MINUTES TO THE FINAL FOUR!!!!

it's halftime bronco fans and we lead 26 to 20.
that classic "D" is shutting the south central champions down.
david sybesma leading the way with eight points.
we win and we are on national television tomorrow!

we blow a 41-31 lead and lose in last three seconds!

oh man....we are up by ten points and let them get back in the game.
and then with only three seconds to go they finally take the lead.
THREE SECONDS TO THE FINAL FOUR...we fall 58-56.
great ride...we finish 24-7.

So sad. So so so sad. I blamed my boyfriend. He started celebrating at the 3-minute mark. He said there's no way we can fall with only 3 mins to go... Anyone else want to kick him?

Poor Broncos, they were doing SO well. But hey, I think we did alright, considering we finished in the top 8 of 289 teams.

Xiaoxue, your prediction was SO CLOSE to coming true! You did get the big scorers right though!

well not exactly....

JBoyd kept us in the game. he led the team in scoring.
our big two did not have their usual games.
i don't think jeff bonds even hit double figures, and david only scored 11.
you can't let the other guy go on a 13-2 run in the final two minutes and expect to win.
and we lose two all americans to graduation.

this team just does not blow leads like this!

a really bad time to blow a big lead but we are done.

am rather sure the campus will hold a big rally for the team since they finished in the top eight in the nation, so let's all show up in GREEN AND GOLD and SHOW POLY PRIDE!!!

and btw, our baseball team is leading the league, too.

Big Headline in Los Angeles Times on Broncos

"POMONA BLOWS LATE LEAD IN LOSS"

oh man, does that hurt...but check the stats.
all american jeff bonds only scores...gasp...FIVE points?
has he ever done that poorly since his freshman year?
david sybesma, mr. shotmaker, doesn't take the game tying shot but rather dishes out as the clock expires?

not the broncos i know.
cinderella carriage turned into a pumpkin.

but some studs coming back. 17-10 next year, maybe 18-9 and a return to the dance.
kdaniels will be a force. mnicholson will be back.
neon-dion-cook too. then you have hervey and jboyd who have been to the dance three years in a row.

just a tough way to close it out.

The Grand Forks Herald said....

david sybesma had a wide open shot with a second left in the game to win it and advance to the Final Four. instead he started a dribble drive and then passed off. huh? with no time left on the clock?

WHAT WAS HE THINKING?

headline in los angeles times coulda/shoulda/woulda/mighta

From Staff Reports

GRAND FORKS, ND--David Sybesma hit yet another of his patented clutch shots as time expired to lead Cal Poly Pomona to a rousing 59-58 victory over Tarleton State in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals here Wednesday afternoon.

The Broncos, now 25-6, advance to their first Final Four appearance in the school's 67-year history tonight while the Texans finish 24-9.

Sybesma led the Broncos with 14 points, including his game-winning three taken at the top of the key on an in-bounds pass with one second remaining. Jonathan Boyd added 12 points while two-time All American Jeff Bonds was limited by the Tarleton defense to only five.

well................ .so much for fantasy ball. good ride, broncos.

Lightbulb we win be in the hunt next year

coach k. won't have a laker type "rebuilding" year in 05-06.
yes, he loses two all americans.

but a solid starting five:

malone 6-5 Sr. Guard (4 year starter)

boyd 6-2 Sr. Guard (returning starter)

nicolson 6-6 Jr. Forward (returns after injury year)

cook 6-4 So. Forward (very exciting player and dangerous)

daniels 6-6 So. Center (huge body with total game)

and then you also have sophomores billy hoffman and kevin neveu in the mix and both got serious minutes all year on a 24-7 team that BEAT West Coast Conference number 3 team San Diego on the road!

prediction:

broncos finish tied for third in CCAA at 14-8 and 17-10 and are a NCAA bubble team. they could even go 15-7 and 18-9 and get hot by year's end.
san bernardino and bakersfield finish one-two.

a correction, xiaoxue...

UCDavis left the league to join DI and the Big West.
now there are only 11 teams left in the league.

so we can't play 22 conference games, only 20.
but will agree with you, our men tie for third and go 14-6 in CCAA.
daniels--who is a horse--and boyd will lead the team next year.
