Temple Ave. Pomona, CA 91768 Thank you for taking the time to consider becoming a sponsor and we look forward to hearing from you soon! Sincerely, Gheren Vitte President, Black Student Union As you may be aware, Cal Poly Pomona is known for its diverse student population and its commitment to cultural awanress. In fact, Cal Poly Pomona is ranked 4th in diversity in the West Religion by U.S. News & World Report. In a collaborative spirit, the Black Student Union (BSU) sponsors a program to assist the University in its expressed goal of increasing the enrollment of African American students. The Annual Black Student Welcome Reception hosted by BSU and the Office of Admissions and Outreach is a collaborative effort designed to facilitate increased enrollment of underrepresented students. The reception this year will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2004 from 7:00 pm – 8:30pm in the Bronco Student Center. The Black Student Welcome Reception is designed to accomplish four objectives, which are to: 1)Welcome and acknowledge all newly admitted African American students and their families to our campus; 2)serve as a resource for incoming students by helping them connect with current BSU students, faculty and staff; 3)expose prospective students to our support programs and services, which will facilitate and enhance the transition from high school to college; and 4)raise $5,000 in scholarship funds to assist qualified African American students in their college expenses. Each year, members of the BSU and Admissions and Outreach conduct tele-counseling campaigns for African American students. During these campaigns students are invited to participate in the Welcome Reception. The response from students and parents has been enthusiastic and every year the program grows significantly. The yield from those who participated in the spring 2003 reception was 87 percent and we were delighted that 91 percent of students who received scholarships at the spring 2003 event matriculated to the university in the fall. This year, we are requesting your assistance again in helping us to raise $5,000 for scholarships. Please consider becoming a sponsor of the BSU's Welcome Reception by becoming a: Friend ($25) – Name Listed in Program Bronze Sponsor ($100) – Certificate Of Appreciation Silver Sponsor ($250) – Special BSU Pinto Gold Sponsor ($500) – Banner With Name On It
