![]() | ASI Special Announcement: Election Day is Nov. 2 (E-Mail) ASI Special Announcement: Election Day is Nov. 2 (EMail) ASI wants to remind Broncos to get out there to vote on Nov. 2 After registering nearly 1500 students, Bronco Voter Rush is now initiating Phase II: educating students on election topics and encouraging Broncos to VOTE! Your polling booth location can be found on the backside of the sample ballot you received in the mail, or by visiting www.mypollingplace.c om. Key propositions that can affect Cal Poly Pomona students are 1A and 65. * Prop. 1A protects local funding for public safety, health, libraries, parks, and other locally delivered services. It prohibits the State from reducing local governments' property tax proceeds and allows the provisions to be suspended only if the Governor declares a fiscal necessity and two-thirds of the Legislature approves the suspension. Suspended funds must be repaid within three years. It also requires local sales tax revenues to remain with local government and be spent for local purposes. Requires the State to fund legislative mandates on local governments or suspend their operation. Fiscal impact of Prop. 1A: Local government funding would be higher and more stable. Local funds could no longer be used to help balance the state budget. So, the state probably would have to cut spending on state programs or raise taxes. * Prop. 65 would change the State Constitution to require voter approval for any reduction in money to local governments from sales taxes, vehicle license fees or property taxes. It would also permit local government to suspend performance of state mandate if state fails to reimburse local government within 180 days of final determination of state-mandated obligation. Exceptions are mandates requiring local government to provide/modify any protection, benefit or employment status to employee/retiree, or any procedural/substantive employment right for employee or employee organization. Fiscal impact of Prop. 65: Local government income would be higher and more stable. However, more money going to local government would also mean less money for state government programs. For more information on these propositions and to determine how you will vote, visit http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections.htm or http://www.newvotersproject .org. There are of course many other informative sites to reference and we encourage you to research them. Thank You for making “Bronco Voter Rush 2004” a success! The ASI Special Announcement serves as communication about upcoming student events sponsored by Associated Students, Inc. Cal Poly Pomona.
