Has Anybody Seen the Movie Coach Carter?

anybody seen the new movie coach carter with samuel l. jackson?

just heard that coach carter is coming to campus in a few weeks. a business professor has talked the movie studio into giving cal poly a copy of the film for free and ASI is paying for the coach's visit after the movie to talk to students.

the story is about a bay area inner city coach who refused to let his team play until his team got their grades up. jackson was great in the role!

will post more news as i hear details.

I heard the same thing from my finance professor yesterday. Unfortunately, it seems that he is booked solid and his asking price is about $50,000 a speech or so. I hope he does come, but at the same time, spending that much on one person who became popular via a movie is too much. I don't know if Professor Escalante, who became famous in the movie "Stand and Deliver", ever had speaking engagements or that he would charge that much.

good news!!! dr. swartz from the marketing department got him to come for $7500 on march 7...i just found out!!!

correct, xiaoxue...that prof somehow talked his agent down from 50K asking to almost a 90 per cent discount...now THAT is what i call some slick negotiating!! apparently the coach was touched by our diversity mission and that the prof's movie class is doing a project on the film for paramount pictures. a friend in the class says they are getting a tour of the studio, too.

and get this, he also got a print of the film to show on campus for free!!!! may as well wait, save the ten bucks, and see it in a few weeks.

okay, i found out a little more. ASI Beat is doing this. there will be a free screening of the movie and then after coach carter will give a talk and sign his books and movie posters. it will be the afternoon of monday, march 7 with the coach speaking at five. you need to have your student bronco access card to get in and you only get one ticket. i still don't know where it is but guess the student union?

okay, the skinny is that the movie will be shown in the ursa major room of the union on march 7. free admission with student id card.

then the coach will appear over at university theater and you have to get a ticket for that and they will be limited, first come first served. he also will sign his books and movie posters, etc.

understand ASI Beat will have an official release on this later this week.

news update: our prof told us today in class that coach carter visit march 7 will begin with a film screening in the student center early afternoon followed by coach carter meeting with various student groups on campus and ending with a motivational presentation in the campus theater at 5 pm. there will be reserved tickets that are free to students with ID. he also will be there to sign books and movie posters and stuff.

will post more news as i hear details.

awesome!!! i understand dr. swartz from that movie marketing class is narrating a private screening around 2 pm in the student center before the visit. that part does not require tickets but the coach carter event in the theater is reserved seating only.
btw, are you in prof. liang's class now?

just noticed that the coach carter info is on the polycentric portion of the cal poly web site. it lists times when students can pick up free tickets this week.

can our web administrator download this and post it somewhere on here? i don't know how.

all,
they passed out tickets for this at the basketball game friday night.
i understand there are about 40 tickets left that can be picked up with student ID card starting at 11 am monday in the theater box office, first come first served.

THE SCHEDULE:
