![]() | While I agree with all the raves about SLO, CPP seriously doesn't deserve such bashing. For instance, read what the some of the engineering alums are up to now. I don't see them spitting on burgers at Mickey D's. The overall numerical stats are mainly to blame though. But one thing to note is that the acceptance rate has gone down drastically - ~52% for last year's entering freshman class. In the late 90s, that figure was upwards 65-70%. This can be attributed to a larger applicant pool, but the academic stats have been inching up slightly every year. Example: CPP's engineering reputation has been gaining ground. In 2002 or so, the COE was ranked #21 (2.6-2.9, I can't quite remember) in the nation by USNWR, in 2004 - #9 (3.3), and in 2005 - #14 (3.2) when compared to non-doctoral granting institutions. Maybe it's good that CPP is letting in students with lower stats, as keeping the school underrated gives an excellent opportunity for many students - but, it's a double-edged sword as well. |

![]() | The name suits him very well though. ![]() While SLO is the shining beacon of the CSU system, the rest pretty much all depend on your preferred field of study (e.g. SDSU and CSUF for business/marketing/finance, CPP for engineering (as with SJSU), ag and architecture, as well as hospitality management). Here's another thread I'm sure you'll all enjoy....... feel free to give some of these people a piece of your mind. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/...ad.php?t=48975 CPP student salary survey (2000) - My guess is that these figures have most likely gone up. http://web.archive.org/web/20020106021030/http://www.csupomona.edu/~career/students/stu_salary00.htm (NOTE: Since the current page leads to an invalid link, I had to go through and find a cached page instead). |

![]() | very interesting, ice man had no idea our school and southern cal were so close together in rankings in arch...and that gives our school even more cred. i knew arch was a tough major, but wow. btw, two questions: 1. when did you turn 100? 2. are you from the north or south pole? just curious! ![]() | By the way, "school-bashing" is nothing new at that site..... I often see UC Davis and UCI get bashed around (mainly because of the school environment), though the bashing is nowhere near as bad as CPP's. By the way, whoever "roxygirl" is in the first thread link I posted above, I commend you for stepping up: Quote:
Now, I grew up in the Inland Empire (Chino, Ontario, Riverside, San Bernardino, that whole area), and CPP is very highly regarded among my peers and the staff at my school. Even my peers, who are bound for UCLA and Berkeley, still hold CPP with high regard. Last edited by PolarMan; 04-22-05 at 10:57 PM.

| Newcomer | I think CPP is a great school, which is why I chose it amongst even some UC’s. What exactly are these people rating success on? I’m proud to say that I am going to CPP in the Fall and these critics don’t affect me because I think they are talking out of their @$$ anyway! |

| Guru | the only ratings that should matter are those that should come from magazines, institutions, organizations, and gov. stuff.... not what other students say. btw, I could care less if ppl bash about our school and say bad stuff. I like my education, and I am happy. |

![]() | Arrogance at College Confidential I agree, it doesn't matter what people think about any school. This guy on the confidential site is no different then other people who also post threads and argue about which school is better Harvard or Yale. Many of these members are ivy leaguers or people who went to "elite schools" and like to brag about the schools they went to. I found the site last year and posted a thread regarding graduate school at the cal state system. I was dissapointed with the responces. People thought that attending a cal state school was a waste of time, especially for an M.B.A. People who think that the name of their school will get them the job or a high paying career are usually people who don't think outside the box and will be working for a company for the rest of their lives. I think the name of the school should not matter. Cal Poly Pomona is a great school. But it's what you do with the degree that counts. Many millionares or leaders in a field, attended colleges that were not Harvard or Yale. Cal Poly Pomona is a unique school and we should be proud to attend this institution. We should do our best to make Cal Poly Pomona a brand known nationwide. P.S: US News And World Report rank Cal Poly Pomona the toughest school to get into with only a 30% acceptance rate in the west. Second was Cal Poly SLO with 38%. |

I agree 110%! Great post! And I'm curious? Do you know what year that publication was made at US News and World Report? I would love and try to find an archive of it. Thanks!

The actual acceptance rate last year was 52%, but that's still tough enough nonetheless, especially since the only two factors considered are your grades and test scores. (Just for reference, CPP's acceptance rate in 2001-02 was 67%, and for comical value, SLO's acceptance rate in 1997 was 57%. )Quote:

![]() | No problem CharStar: the link is:wwww.usnews.com/edu/colleges and just select colleges by region west. Then you will see other categories such as acceptance rate and diveristy. Looking at the site, they made a change now Cal poly Pomona is second with 30%, but SLo is third with 39%. |

![]() | This man knows what he is talking about. ![]() There are many successful CPP alumnus out in the business field. There have been several occasion where I initiate a conversation with a colleague about business and he tells me a testimony of a business millionaire, and to my surprise, I was told in the end that the entrepreneur was a Cal Poly Pomona alumni. I thanked him for sharing the story. I think the name of the school should not matter. Cal Poly Pomona is a great school. But it's what you do with the degree that counts. I agree wholeheartedly. I hope all of you will be successful in your future career. Quote:
