![]() | 'sup homeslices Hi. My name is j. I graduated with a bs and ms in civil engineering, have my professional license, and....totally hate my engineering job. Well, I don't hate engineering per se, I like doing the numbers, making the computer models....but everything else is really tedious and painful for me. I just signed on here to get some opinions, and maybe some answers. I'm debating going back to school for architecture, and wonder if it is the right thing for me...or if I should just slave on in my dead-end job and try to get my bachelor of fine arts at night through SJSU. |

![]() | You should also ask yourself, am I going to be satisfied with working as an architect or am I going to be hate architecture after working in the career for a certain period of time (same as engineer)? Since you have the time and money, why not invest in 2-4 years and find a new career that you now have an interest in. Good luck in whatever choice you make. CalBearsForever, did you graduate from Cal Poly Pomona or San Luis Obispo or San Jose State University?

![]() | lol...yeah, assuming I actually have time to leave the studio. ![]() I'm not that happy with my job, but I wanted to give it a chance. Not a cheap investment. Besides....going back to school isn't free either. I've been saving up for a mortgage, but I think the money may be 1000 times better spent on school at this point. Quote:

As for the other question.... This is the kind of question I've thought and re-thought hundreds of times, it's the question that keeps me up at night alot. I could spend the rest of my life thinking about it, and I'd never reach a definitive answer. I think that as long as I do the research, make my move, and then find out it's not the right thing for me, at least I tried to change something, and I can look back without regrets. I wanted to get some opinions also of people who are actually in the arch. program or are working in the field. That's information I'm short on right now. Thanks for reading. | |

![]() | I started out as a civil engineer student. I changed my major the first month I was at Cal Poly. I hated engineering. I hated engineer students, professors, classes and the whole notion of working with numbers all the time. I fell in love with writing and ever since then I've been a communication student. I found what I love and I'm sticking with it. A lot of my former fellow engineering peers criticized me for changing my major calling me a quitter and a panzy. That made me hate engineers even more. I can keep on going on how I hate engineers/engineering, but I gotta go back to work. |
