| Fire-breather | My sister wants to do her post-graduate at Davis, they have a very strong Veterinary Science program. Other than that I'm not sure what they are well known for. The only other thing I know is that the area is very flat and a lot of people bike themselves around. SLO was one of the 4 places I applied to out of high school. I applied for their Journalism program because I thought it was pretty good. Unfortunately it was a very impacted major, meaning TONS of people wanted to get into that. I got rejected. It's just as well though, because I work in computers now. ![]() |

| Active Member | ohh..yea, i've been to davis (and i lived there for 4 weeks, for this summer program thingy) i really like the campus and the people are really nice too...and it's not a bad school, so that's why it's my first choice. SLO's not bad either, the campus is pretty too and it's a well-known school for mostly engineering. i don't even know what major to apply and if they will reject me...the worst thing is, you HAVE to pick a major along with your application...and i'm stressing out because i don't wanna pick the wrong major...but anyways, do you like what you're working with now? with computers? |

![]() | If you keep up with your classes (maintain good grades) and down the road, you like to change your major at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, I doubt your counselor or the colleges will give you a hard time. Afterall, the first major you choose may not fit for you and your college counselor should understand your situation.

| Active Member | i hope not...i was talking to my dad at dinner tonight and i can't think of anything that i like in particular, i asked him if he noticed anything that i like since i was a kid, he said no. but he said, if you don't like anything in particular....just choose ANY major that you don't hate and go along with that. (basically i think he meant to study for the future job purpose instead of choosing by interests) anybody weird like me? seriously, a person must have something that they like...well, i remember when i was a little kid, i really liked umm...school supplies...hahhaha, so whenever i go to officemax/staples/whatever stores related, i'd get so excited. but whenever my dad and bro goes to ace hardware/home depot, i hate those places so i always stay in the car until they finished shopping or get bored watching them shopping. so...let's see...analysis of me... bookstores/school supplies - love it (but i don't like reading and certainly not english/history) electronics - depends on what kind (never really went deep into its structures) automotive parts - hate it (i like driving, but i hate fixing cars) gardening - not interested (my mom loves it) astronomy - very interesting, i always wonder about space stuff and TIME machine...hahha (too bad it's not reality, but never really went deep into astronomy either) computers - i like to go on the internet and chat with people :P my dad and bro were always updating the "motherboard" and hard-drive or whatever computers, that i never really paid attention to...) robotics - i think it's really interesting (kinda wanna study that, but umm...i heard this is not a really good career for the job market...) math - okay with it, don't hate it, but don't exactly like it much... science - physics is pretty fun so far (taking it this year, better than chem and bio) *i'd probably prefer math/science than english/history engineering - looked through each one...but dang...can't find the one that suits me the most... health field - i was in the health academy last year and i was considering "pharmacy" to be my only future major...it was a big goal...but i wonder what destroyed it? yes...the program in davis - biomedical science, that made me changed my mind...i hated biology and i didn't know what i was doing in there, hated the labs there...only the lectures were okay... (to be continued...maybe) yeap...i'm a very confused person...sigh.. ![]() |

But anyway, your dad gave some very good advice. Find something you don't hate. Something that you will be able to stand going in-depth and finishing an entire major. The more indecisive you are, the more generic a major you should choose. That's probably why a lot of students major in Business. It's very generic, but after you graduate it's applicable to many fields. Most employers don't really care much about what you majored in anyway. They just want you to have a degree (it proves you can accomplish what you start) and they'll train you with the stuff they want you to know. Worry about your career later. You'll eventually discover something you enjoy a lot, and at that point you can pursue your passion and turn it into a career.

The point is, a lot of employers will take great interest in you if you display a lot of initiative for learning things on your own. Passion for something will show through and they're likely to take you over the guy who actually majored in it. So your problem right now is that these schools want you to pick a major. One way to decide if you having problems deciding is to examine the requirements for each major. See which classes are required to attain a degree in that field. Find one where most of the classes make you think, "Hmm, I could do that." Another thing to keep in mind is impacted majors. If tons of people are vying for the same spot, it will be harder to get in. I think a lot of college handbooks may tell you that kind of information, or your school councellor should be able to point you in the right direction for info. Good luck!

![]() | No. You need the SAT score or the ACT score in order to apply to a CSU and UC. Both CSU and UC (plus SAT II and an essay) universities accept either SAT or ACT scores.

| Active Member | hey you guys, i don't wanna start a new thread again, at least not in this section (because i already did in the network section i think) but yea, i've decided to go to cal poly SLO majoring in materials engineering. it was a tough decision, but i guess i'm done with deciding now. they just sent me this "residence questionnaire" form...do they send it to every admitted applicants? i can't wait until i graduate and going back to hong kong for visit and then attending college for the first time...lol...i can say that this is a big year for me, as well as to the rest of the 2005 graduating class ![]() |

![]() | HAHA, Congrats on getting accepted at SLO. I am just bitter cuz i got rejected. In the long run it worked out for me though because I fell in love with CPP! (And a major I never even thought of!) But then my b/f and I went up to visit SLO a few months ago, and I really liked the campus, so I think you made a great choice. Oh, and next time you visit, go to Poly Canyon. Its a cool place for us math/science/engineering nerds. You will see some cool projects that students made! |

| Active Member | JPWRana: wow that's a little harsh there, the "CHEAPER" cal poly...well i wonder why you'd think that... SuperMegStar: thanks for the advice! yea, i really liked the campus too. i'm glad you like CPP, the two cal polys are the same, there's not much difference...as long as you like the campus and everything, that's all it matters one of the reasons i picked SLO is because it's not TOO far away from the bay area...pomona is far...so yea..lol |
